If you have any food allergies or dietary restrictions, DO NOT go to Kublai Khan in Southaven. I’ve never publicly spoke bad of a restaurant, but I’m furious right now. Anytime Nora goes to a new restaurant, I always call ahead to verify that they do not have peanuts or cook with unrefined peanut oil. Because this is a habachi grill, I was even more thorough with my questions. The girl on the phone left the phone to speak to someone else and then came back and said there were no peanuts used anywhere in the facility. Michael and Nora arrived and he noticed there was a peanut sauce in the buffet line. He questioned the chef, who didn’t speak English. He was waiting for the waitress to come back and texted me (I’m at home). I called and asked to speak to the manager. She stated they have peanut butter, peanut sauce, and whole peanuts on the buffet. She offered to make Nora’s food on a separate grill in the back, but the food is all pulled from the same area as the peanuts (HUGE cross contamination risk) and the grill in the back is also habachi style and she couldn’t guarantee that peanuts hadn’t been on it either. I couldn’t get through to her the colossal impact that could have on my daughter. I wouldn’t be mad if they had told me originally on the phone that there were peanuts. There are plenty of restaurants we have have to avoid due to that very reason, but I’ve never been lied to like that. She didn’t even offer to comp my husbands meal that he isn’t even able to eat around my daughter. I told her that she really needs to do more education with her staff on food allergies and what on their menu has common food allergens in them. I’m just thankful that we were able to catch it. Just sharing so others are aware and so nothing bad happens to anyone else as a result of their lack of knowledge or caution regarding food...

SO MY ONE STAR IS FOR THE SUSHI/SASHIMI. Not a fan of rolls because it's hard to detect rancid fish. My family is part Japanese and Korean so raw fish every week is the norm for me and yes I understand this is Mississippi not some sushi masters hut in Osaka or Seoul but no matter what making sure your customers don't get sick should be a priority. Ordered 18 PCs of sashimi thrown together on a plate. Like literally thrown together. Picture below. The first pc I picked up was unusually slimey but figured it was excess water until I took a bite and the rancid salty rotten fish smell came out of my nose. That's when I smelled it and smelled the rancid smell of sour fish plus the over salting to mask it. My daughter ordered rolls and like I said it's hard to taste past the rice and other ingredients in it or if it's fried. I refused to take another bite and paid for my whole meal uneaten sashimi included since I had soup and salad. Plus the manager didn't try to speak with me nor find out what was going on. She just frowned and she made the waiter apologize while her face stayed in her phone. I've noticed her poor management for quite some time and have heard people complain about her alot. Makes you wonder if she may be a part of the problem. But on a positive note the bowls are still great and even greater if you don't have to stand next to a uncleaned green moss filled fish tank or if the floors are not cleaned with grease water. I don't know if it's still the same owners but they were lovely people and this place def was nowhere near this. Hopefully it...

I ask two women servers an they said yes mam I can get you a water but Brandon was closer to the water so one girl asked him to make it he said it so rude “IM NOT MAKING HER NO WATER” than proceeded to get back in his phone . The other server was like “Brandon just go make her a water “ he proceeded to say it away an this time threw his hand up “IM NOT MAKING HER A WATER I SAID NO” I was totally shocked because he wasent doing anything but bagging up the food an he was literally 2 feet from the water station . So one of the women servers end up making my water an told me sorry about that. While Brandon continued to sit there being so rude .
