Outsider has been on our list to try for quite a while, and we were absolutely delighted by our first experience there and will definitely be returning.
We started with cocktails, which were both above average and very refreshing. We also had the seasonal peaches & burrata starter, which was excellent. The peaches were perfectly ripe, the arugula was lovely, and the honey and balsamic played nicely together. The pink peppercorns adding so much interest to the texture and flavor of the dish.
Naturally, we had to try some pizza. We ordered the prosciutto, which did not disappoint. The crust had perfect leopard spotting on its base. The tomato sauce was as it should be: simple. The flavor of the San Marzanos shone through beautifully. The olives packed a ton of flavor without overwhelming the prosciutto. Overall, an excellent pizza.
We were also guinea pigs for a new dish, Kalbi pork riblets with house-made kimchi and rice. The chef was so kind and asked us for feedback on the plate as we were the first to order it. It was the best kimchi we've had in a long time and the heat level is fabulous, though may be too hot for folks who are sensitive to the heat. Everything on that plate worked for us.
We ordered strawberry shortcake for dessert and it was super nostalgic.
Service was attentive and pleasant. There was an influx of orders that backed things up in the kitchen for a few minutes, but they let us know right away. the atmosphere is super chill and comfortable. Will definitely be recommending to friends and look forward to returning for the...
Read moreAte there two nights ago on a double date with my wife. It was the last day of Restaurant Week in Spokane. Meat loaf was 5 stars. Burger was great also.
But my burger was $3 more than the online menu price, and wasn’t served with potatoes, instead it came with a salad. Lame. Update your online menu before you raise prices and make substitutions.
More annoying was the dessert.. my wife got the $35 restaurant week special. We were told upfront they didn’t have two of their deserts, instead they would be serving a cheesecake or chocolate cake option. Get this… it was COSTCO CHEESECAKE and COSTCO CHOCOLATE CAKE! For real. Unmistakeable little white chocolate curly garnishes that come on Costco chocolate cakes, and the cheesecake was 100% Costco cheesecake.
I get it, so you guys ran out of your desserts at the end of Restaurant week. It must have been a busy week, good for you! Own it though. They didn’t even try to garnish the desserts differently, they just served it plain on a plate like it was cut at a birthday party. Either apologize and be honest upfront, or lower the price, or give a coupon for another visit, etc. Ya’ll are slippery little snakes!
It wasn’t until after we all walked out that we realized we all had the same Costco suspicion, or we would have said something.
Anyway, nice job Outsider. You could have spun this in a positive way, instead...
Read moreSuch a great hidden gem downtown! If you love pizza, Salads, and a few meat options crafted by a local chef, go to Outsider! This place is a quaint spot with an open kitchen concept. We sat at the bar and loved watching the chefs make the dishes. My only "complaint" is that there was only one gal serving, hosting, and making drinks. The place wasn't "packed" but it was definitely steady. They should hire at least one other person to do hosting/drinks! We had to wait a bit to order so I can definitely understand the poor reviews about leaving without ordering. However, the food itself made up for it! The Prosciutto and Arugula toast was divine. The Spinach salad was incredible! Such fresh flavors. And the cacio e pepe pizza was toasted to perfection, yet soft and crunchy! My husband and I frequent NYC Italian pizzerias and this place is comparable. Definitely recommend if you're looking for a local spot before a show or just during your stroll downtown. We...
