I wish I could give this place 10 stars. The staff is professional and proficient wether its just me or in a large group. And the food that small bar kitchen is pushing out is exquisite. The Viking burger is tops in the city. The tater tots are a perfect side along with the house made dipping sauces. I have recently been getting the salads and was quite impressed with the taco salad which can be ordered with our without meat but either way the salsa ranch dressing is the star of the show. Even their side salad is thoughtfully prepared and not just a handful of bagged greens. The Viking also has a great beer list filled with local and regional favorites as well they carry local spirits and serve excellent cocktails. The Viking is great for lunch or dinner before a show or any event at the spokane arena.
2.14.24 update Took my Valentine here for another burger and brew Wednesday. I tried a new western bacon bbq burger with the city's best side salad. It was phenomenal lots of Bacon Fried onions and The right amount of BBQ sauce. The salad is top notch tons of fresh crisp lettuce topped with black olives and tomatoes and crisp seasoned croutons with the best blue cheese in any bar I've ever been. What really stood out this time was the service. When we got there at 11:30 it was chill and a few tables were flowing. Then it seemed like the lunch rush all came in all at once, and our waitress Ari was super busy getting tables drinks and food and checking on us again and again. By the time we left at 12:30 ish the place was at max capacity and Ari and team were churning it out with a...
Read moreThe Viking. It was once the best tavern in a 350 mile radius of Spokane, no joke. To find it's better, as to selection of beer poured by more knowledgeable people, you had to be in Portland or Seattle, and it was still a toss up at that. I can't fault it for what it is, but I miss what it was. Winter celebrations around the fire pit and a selection of well over 100 different beers, fifty or so on tap the rest being bottled, what could've been better. I spent a lot of money there, but I still have glassware in my cupboard from Wednesdays "pint glass night", so maybe it all worked out.
I recently visited for the first time in about 15 years. It has changed tremendously. The guy that served us was great and the food is quite good, but that said, they used to have the best sandwiches in town. They had one with roast beef, cream cheese, clover sprouts, horse radish and I don't remember what cheese all on toasted rye bread, and it was glorious.
Don't let my nostalgia keep you from dining here. They still have a couple of pools tables, shuffleboard, and most of the beer decorations on the walls, so, despite no fire pit, it's still close to what it once was. And the food really is pretty good.
May they bring back the...
Read moreMy husband and I came here for a casual, late evening dinner date and it was perfect. It has a kind of a grotty bar atmosphere with wood paneling and beer mirrors, but in a good way. It's clean and there were people there with little kids in the dining area, so it felt less bar, more grill. Everything on the menu looked amazing, but my husband got the brisket sandwich with beer battered fries and loved it. The meat was tender and tasty and the portions were huge. The fries were amazing and came with a fry sauce to dip. But here's my favorite thing about the Viking: THEY HAVE A WHOLE VEGAN MENU! It's a delightful selection of bar food, but all vegan! I can't even explain how grateful I am for that. I got the buffalo "chicken" nachos (pictured below) and they were such a treat! It was a huge portion and delicious. My non-vegan husband had a bite and couldn't believe it was vegan. It is such a nice thing to be able to go someplace and have more choices than just a salad or some random entree with the meat and dairy removed. I got the Peach Whiskey Smash and it tasted like a peach ring in a glass. The beer selection was great and clearly posted. The service was friendly. We will...
