My fiancée and I loved Ginger, and were heartbroken when they had closed. Last week we discovered that a new sushi place had opened in the old Ginger location, and we were incredibly excited to give it a try. If I were to rate Sushi Blossom solely on the food, it would be an automatic 5-stars - it was fantastic. However, it wasn't the food that ruined the experience - it was the tasteless and annoying prank and the lack of a response by the staff.
I walked in, and our food was awaiting us on the bar, bagged and ready to go. It had the order ticket on it with my name and our $55 worth of sushi, and all seemed good-to-go. Out of habit, I checked the contents when I was back in the car. The first container was completely empty, and the second contained a single, unopened can of Dole brand southwest style vegetables. I went back inside, very confused, and showed the contents of our order to the staff member that had assisted me initially. He told me he believed it was possible "someone mistook this for the garbage" which was a baffling response. It had my order ticket on it, and the containers were not dirty, and the can was not opened. A second staff member approached, they exchanged a brief explanation, and she took the bag and disappeared into the back room. They handed me my actual food and offered no apology, compensation, or even a full explanation as to what happened.
On the drive home, which is over 30 minutes away, I became more incensed by the event. Had I not taken it upon myself to check, I would have gotten home to discovered someone's 'mistake', and the hour-long roundtrip to return to the location would have had me livid. So I'm forced to give this experience a single-star, unless a member of the Sushi Blossom management team contact me to correct this issue, in which case I will happily change my review to a 5-star to reflect the...
Read moreI have to tell you, I came here with some expectations that were in line with the Star rating of their reviews. However, I was intensely disappointed. The service was decent enough, although the waitress only had limited knowledge of their menu and fish choices. I have eaten at many sushi restaurants and have a pretty good expectation of sushi quality relative to price.
The ordered some edemame to start with and it was not good. It tasted like it was overcooked and then reheated. The beans were soft and a bit mushy.
I ordered a variety of nigiri and others in the group ordered other items. It took almost 50 minutes to get our food. They forgot one of our items and said they would get it. I waited another 5 minutes before eating hoping it would arrive. It didn't. Nor did it arrive before were were done with our meal. I had to tell them to cancel it. I was disgusted. A customer whose meal has been served is supposed to get first priority in the kitchen for any adjustments to their food. Not here apparently.
The Sashimi is of average quality for a run of the mill sushi restaurant. Their prices suggest otherwise as do the reviews. Folks in Spokane clearly have lower standards of which this place is their special gem. In other markets this place would quickly fail. Other shortfalls are the very poor quality wasabi and the upon soup as well as the sushi "chefs".
We ordered the udon soup plain as stated on the menu and assumed like most other places this meant noodles and broth. Nope. It included fish roll slices, a compliment of vegetables and other items. Plain at this place means no meat.
The wasabi wouldn't dissolve in soy sauce but rather broke up into small pieces.
The sushi chefs were not what you might expect.
I will not be back. Spent well over 100 dollars...
Read moreReally lovely little sushi restaurant. I live in north spokane so dont go here often simply due to the distance but when i have the opportunity an on the south hill or have a friend who lives in a different part of town not wanting to go north to my favorite sushi spot i enjoy going here. The parking in this lot is a little funky so be prepared for that and its a smaller location overall so if you hit it when there is a crowd you may have a wait. I really enjoy how unique their rolls are and my favorite is the cherry blossom because of the onion on it. Im honestly not sure why but it makes the roll so amazing. They also have lots of traditional rolls and flavors you would expect plus some of the traditional hot food dishes so it can be a good place to go when you have someone who maybe doesn't want sushi specifically. The size of their rolls are nice, they taste fresh, they have two types of toro as well which is always a pleasant surprise and the chefs selections always come out beautifully. Presentations always good. My only complaint is compared to a majority of the sushi joints im spokane they are significantly more expensive. What normally costs me about 35-40 anywhere else cost me 65 here. Still. Worth that occasional extra splurge and travel for something outside of...
