In-N-Out burgers are far superior to all other fast food burgers! The hamburger patty is juicy, nicely seasoned and fills the bun. In addition, each burger comes with fresh crunchy lettuce and a slice of actually ripe tomato (unless you would prefer not to have these). They always ask if you'd like onion and, if you do, you can have raw or grilled (YUM!) onions on your burger as well. On the bun they use a most delicious sauce that is similar to a chunky version of thousand island dressing. Finally, if you order a cheeseburger the cheese actually tastes like cheese and is usually at least partially melted.
Fries at In-N-Out are freshly cut (neverfrozen), always hot out of the fryer and absolutely NOT greasy. Portions are large enough to share with another person. Finally, they beat out my old favorite fries from McD's by a mile!
Shakes come in one size (medium) and are thick, rich & creamy, as well as filling, and come in the vanilla, chocolate and strawberry (or any combination that you can think of...).
If you just want a burger you will spend less than $3 (a Double Double - 2 patties & 2 slices of cheese will run approx $4.25) and if you want a full meal - burger, fries and a drink - you can expect to spend $6-$8 total.
Drive-thru lines are usually long but move really fast especially given that you are getting a FRESH meal not something made an hour ago that's been sitting under a heat lamp. Don't let the lines deter you. This is truly the BEST take-out burger place I know of...
Read moreWell, I gave it another shot. And this time I tried Animal Style on both the burgers and the fries. Maybe THAT'S why I couldn't see what so many others apparently do, I thought. But NO.
In N Out is basic and flavorless compared to all the other options out there. Their fries are basically Styrofoam sticks, and taste like it. And no amount of glorified thousand island dressing and atrocious cheese "sauce" is going to change that.
And their burger tastes like what you would get if you said you'd like something that wasn't exciting, preferably bland and dim, with as little brightness or flavor as possible, with a large dollop of melancholy and a side of that feeling you have in the morning when you're wondering why you even woke up, so you can spend another day in this world pretending to give a **. THAT'S what their burger tastes like.
So I guess after this, my second and final time, I just don't get what so many people see in this place. I don't understand how so many people can be so enthusiastic, cult-like even, about a complete lack of flavor. Why do they hate flavor so much? Why does the idea of something being delicious tick them off? So much so that they're willing to vehemently support whatever you call what In N Out serves? Call it what you want. But...
