El Catrin Mexican & Cuban Grill — Restaurant in Spring

Took my family here for our Christmas get-together. I had dined here twice before for breakfast, which I highly recommend), but never for dinner. We had 14 adults and 6 children in our party. We were seated near the stage and patio door (by my request). I preplanned this with Johanna and ordered the beef & chicken fajita mix along with guacamole & queso for the adults, while the children ordered their own kids meal. They have a very good kid's menu with enough selection to satisfy any picky or non-picky eater. I ordered the fajitas to be served family style. When the platters were served, they had also included sausage, which was slightly salty, but delicious nonetheless. The beef fajitas were perfectly seasoned and tender & juicy, but the chicken was a little overcooked. The rice, beans, and guac were delicious, but the queso did hardened too quickly even though the flavor was good. Our waitstaff was good and took care of everyone. We were there at 6pm on a Saturday and we were the only customers there for about 2 hours. The kids had a dance contest on the karaoke stage and had a blast! We were also celebrating the birthday of one of my guest and had brought a cake and the waitstaff brought plates & forks for everyone which was really sweet. I needed assistance to the restroom as I am wheelchair bound, and I and my daughter-in-law saw a roach on the stall wall was a little embarrassing. Due to the bug and the overcooked chicken, I am giving El Catrin a 4 instead of a 5. The decor, atmosphere, & drinks are wonderful. Our service was good. On my first visit, I came here with three other people, and I ordered the San Luis Special with chicken. The waiter seemed very apathetic in his service and manner of speaking. My order arrived with beef instead of chicken, and one of the other people with me also received their order not as they asked.

I came here again today, and both I and someone else ordered the Emma Enchiladas Potosinas Con Cecina. The menu states it comes with 4 enchiladas and guacamole. We only received 3 enchiladas and without guacamole. Another person with me ordered one of the pictured items labeled as "Luis Special." There is no menu item named "Luis Special." There is however a "Luis Catrin Special" and a "San Luis Special." This led to a misunderstanding and reception of an unexpected menu item. This could have easily been avoided by labeling the pictured item correctly.

Don't get me wrong, the food can be quite delicious. Everyone I came with agrees that the food can be quite scrumptious. The aguas frescas were very flavorful and refreshing. Most of our issues were with incorrect or missing food.

Let’s start with the Negative sorry here to be honest only. Short Staffed, Restaurant very 🥵 Hot miserable hot . Waitstaff seemed in a rush taking order and took forever to come back to see if we needed refills , food took forever to come to table but food was good in pictures . We ordered drink refills but they took forever to come 2nd round by that time we were ready to leave and drinks had been sitting so long the ice had melted. : / So I did what anyone would do I cancelled drinks and waiter rolls her eyes at me 🤪. Rice not all that and if you get cheese dip if you don’t eat right away cheese gets hard . This place gets 3 for being clean and below pics and drinks if brought to table on time really good . 2.5 rating but don’t want to give 2 because they are not completely horrible and this place has potential to improve.
