I am very surprised at the very high ratings for this restaurant.
First: This place is very expensive. We veg combo costs $22. The quantity they serve for what they charge is very very little. The masala flavored fries were $10 and they tasted absolutely bland and tasteless. Compare this to cheesy fries at Chillies which comes with toppings of cheese, jalapeños, bacon, etc with table service. I have no idea what the management was thinking when they priced everything so high.
Second: For the price they charge, you would at least expect a reasonable dine in table service. But they just offer really small disposable plates. Especially considering we ordered appetizers and main course, they should have provided bigger plates. Only upon request they offered slightly bigger plates. I am guessing there is a lot of cutting corners going on, as the plates in a lot of reviews are very different.
Third: Coming to food. The veg curries were good. The veg appetizers were disappointing. We ordered Andhra Chicken 65 but they served the Chennai style chicken 65. We ordered veg Manchuria for starter, and after 15 minutes they check with us if it is okay to serve gobi Manchuria (which was loaded with venigar). My wife could not have more than one piece.
Finally, the food was bad that we did not even ask for to-go container lids. We left chicken biryani, chicken 65, masala fries and gobi Manchuria. We only asked for a to go container lid for malai kofta.
I rarely write negative reviews. But I had to write one for this place as I have no idea why this place is so highly rated. Maybe the unreasonable price hike might have been recent. Another possibility could be there main chef might be off today and someone else was handling the kitchen. Either way, our family had a...
Read moreI recently visited this restaurant and had high hopes, but unfortunately, the experience was deeply disappointing. We ordered Chicken Chef'65, Dilliwala Butter Masala (Chicken), and Garlic Naan, with complimentary rice.
Starting with the Chef'65, it was a letdown. The chicken was drenched in oil, to the point where it felt like it was floating in it. The flavor was off-putting, and I had to double-check whether it was actually made of chicken due to the strange texture and overwhelming use of artificial food color. It was far from the crispy, spicy, and flavorful dish I expected.
The Dilliwala Butter Masala was equally underwhelming. The chicken was dry and lacked any real juiciness, and the curry itself was bland, missing the rich, layered flavors that make this dish a favorite. It tasted like it was lacking the essential spices and seasoning that should elevate the dish.
On a positive note, the Garlic Naan and the complimentary rice were decent, but nothing extraordinary. The real kicker, however, was the presentation and dining experience. The restaurant was poorly equipped, with no proper cutlery in sight. Instead, our meal was served on flimsy, disposable plates, which really detracted from the overall experience.
As someone who enjoys authentic Indian food, I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. The food lacked both quality and authenticity, and the dining conditions were subpar. Definitely not a place for true Indian food...
Read moreFirst, I want to be clear. This review is only applicable to the Turmeric location on Sawdust Road in Spring. We have been to the Turmeric location in Katy and were very pleased with their food and service.
Unfortunately, we can’t say the same thing about the Turmeric location on Sawdust Road. When we were ready to order, they insisted that we come to the counter to order. By itself, that’s not really a big deal. But then the first three things we ordered they said they didn’t have any. Among the items they could not provide was nan!
An Indian food restaurant without nan is like a burger joint that has no hamburger buns!
Rather than apologizing for the unavailability of menu items, he made us feel like we were inconveniencing them by asking for menu items they could not provide.
So in all fairness, I can’t actually say their food was not good. We never got to try any.
Rather than inconvenience them any further, I said we might come back another day when they were ready to do business.
Too bad Katy is so far away from where we live, or we would have just gone to the Turmeric...
