City Jake's Cafe — Restaurant in Springfield

Absolutely fantastic experience. City Jake was in front of the grill with freshly gelled hair, kitchen bib on, and white New Balance shoes ready for a big day. Our orders were taken promptly and the coffee was in self serve pumpers ready to pump, when my bro asked about which flave he should try- City Jake barked “the jump start is no girly man coffee, it’s black euro”. We doubled down on his signature blend, and walked through the restaurant admiring City Jakes store-long shelves littered with Bass Fishing trophies and awards while the ambiance of a lit af grill was popping off in the background. My blueberry pancakes are an absolute 10/10 and City Jake himself suggested fresh whipped cream on the top, to which I couldn’t turn down in any lifetime. The four Midwesterners in my party noted more than once “wish we had city Jake in Kansas City.”

Decent breakfast place, Jakes has been around a long time. I'm taking 2 stars away from a 5 star review for 2 major negative impacts about this place:

They only take cash. Places that do this usually rant about fees but nothing on the menu is cheap enough to complain about fees for each transaction.

Their menu is structured to get the most money out of you. The process for me getting a simple bacon, eggs and toast breakfast was; I HAD to get the breakfast that came with everything eggs, a meat, a potato(home fries, hash brown etc), toast and coffee. In the end I ended up paying full price $14 even after having the potato item removed. So i got charged full price even when removing an item! Some people dont want a pile of carbs or "fillers" in every meal.

I've had political conversations with Jake and with the protest against credit charging fees it's amazing he still goes for this way of robbing...

I asked for a sausage eggs over med and cheese. My sandwich came fully cooked but the whites of the eggs were raw and the yolk fully cooked. I showed the woman who took my order and Jake started to make me another sandwich.I started to feel bad because he was mad and cursing about how my order was similar to someone else. Then I received the second sandwich and the whites were raw again. I don't like conflict at all and since they make you pay before you sit down I was going to ask for my money for the sandwich I never ate because he kept making it wrong but after hearing him curse over something so small I knew.
