We've gone here many times before and it was one of our favorite places. This visit was a disaster. Our pink lemonade tasted aweful. I ordered a sweet wine and got brought the house wine, which was so bitter and nasty. We ordered a large Pepporoni and medium Bbq chicken. Well, the newly first day manager asks if the pepporoni pizza shes carrying is ours. We said we didnt think so because ours is supposed to be a large and that is a medium. She says, well if it's not theirs on the balcony she will bring it back to us and say it is ours. That surprised us all. Who makes you take a pizza that's not yours? Plus, when she brought it back because it wasn't theirs on the balcony, it was already room temperature. They came back 20 minutes later and asked if we was waiting on another pizza we said, yes. We still needed our medium Bbq chicken. They said it must have gotten Lost in the system and they will make it now. We was so irritated at this point. We finally get the pizza and finish eating, go to check out and the same newly first day manager was ridiculous once again. She tried to charge us for a large pepporoni when she clearly knew she brought us a cold medium pepporoni. They also tried charging us for 3 large salads when we only had one. Service was aweful, food was aweful, and drinks were aweful other than the 2 beers and salad that was ordered. Our check was $69.00 for what we got. It's never been that high before for what we got. I'm not sure we will...
Read moreI first patronized Garbo's about 32 years ago, but my life got busy, and the establishment relocated, putting it beyond my box. My wife and I stopped in again the other afternoon after our long absence. We each ordered a small side salad, and we shared a thin crust, spicy chicken pizza. Here's the good and the bad: The decor hasn't changed in 30 years and was dated, worn, and dirty. The high- table chairs were wobbly and rickety. A painful collapse seemed imminent, and relaxing was not a viable option as I remained vigilant preparing for a chair failure. The service was painfully inadequate, with the waitress appearing to be serving double duty in the kitchen and the front of the house. Overall, the restaurant was short staffed, and service was accordingly effected. The salads arrived, and while excessively comprised of chopped iceberg lettuce, the dressing was exceptionally tasty with hints of olive oil, anchovies, and vinegar. The pizza arrived, and while it looked appetizing, the thin crust was disappointing as it was largely soggy instead of crisp and crackery (like the superior Pizza House on Commercial Street). The spicy marinated chicken had a strong taste of vinegar (which overpowered what should have been the complementary flavors of cheese, peppers, and tomato). Room for improvement here for sure. I'm not certain if my tastes have improved, declined, or just changed, but Garbo's failed to hit the same gastronomic oxytocin sites that it did...
Read moreOrdered a Garbo’s Meatball Pizza and an order of toasted ravioli to go and had a great Martini while I waited and watching the Texas/Houston ALCS. i have always loved Gabo’s back when they started on Republic Rd and Scenic and they are now located in Chesterfield Village across the street from Black Sheep Burgers. The Martini was exceptional and I ate the ravioli in my parked car before heading back home to reheat the pizza. The owner is an amazing woman and her daughter helps her with the restaurant since Eric passed away few years ago. If you want an excellent pizza, salads, appetizers etc then this is the place in Springfield. They have remained true to their origins in St. Louis style pizza but also have regular Mozzarella if you’re looking for something more traditional. The staff are friendly and engaging with the customers and they all work their butts off and I can’t recommend any other pizzeria in town unless you want to drive to Reeds Spring Pizza. in both cases they are run by strong business women who care about what they are serving to their customers! EAT LOCAL SPRINGFIELD! and tip...
