TLDR: apparent lack of management/owner presence led to a horrible service experience.
Group of 4 visited Bob's for brunch. We arrived before the doors opened and were seated promptly with our order taken within 10 minutes of being seated which was great. 25 minutes later the waiter tells us our food will be out soon. 25 minutes after that, he tells us it should be out shortly. then after waiting for 1 hour and 12 minutes and all the other tables that were sat at the same time had already eaten, paid and left, he comes and tells us that there was an issue since we arrived right when they were opening. The kitchen had told him to hold our order so they wouldn’t stack up, then they never told him they were open for more orders, so people that arrived after us had their order put in prior to ours but ours was 2 tickets away.
Now, one would think that if you had messed up a situation like that, the waiter would tell the kitchen that we'd been waiting over an hour for food and ours should be moved up to the front of the line. However, we just nodded our head and acknowledged that we had been waiting for over an hour and other tables that arrived after us had already eaten and left. The waiter apologized.
When our food did arrive, the fried chicken was black, the burger was burnt and dry, and the potato hash was soggy. The waiter asked if anything could be done to improve our experience as he knew we were frustrated, and I just asked for our check and told him the burger was burnt. He requested to get me a new burger to which I eventually agreed; I didn't want to wait longer for food. He then came back a few minutes later to tell me that because they add pork to the patty which they grind in-house, they have to cook it to a certain temperature. It seemed like he (or someone from the kitchen) was implying that the burger wasn't actually burnt.
No one other than the waiter ever came to our table to address the issues, and nothing was done to improve the experience other than the "apology". We have eaten at Bob's previously for brunch and have had good experiences in which the burger was apparently cooked to temperature without being burnt and the other food was good. We've also had poor experiences at dinner time with similar issues with service, or lack thereof, and no acknowledgement from any higher up or the owner who was in the kitchen at...
Read moreSeriously Folks, when it comes to GLOBAL- CLASS dining there is a new admiral in Starkville! Before you even take your first sip of the expansive collection of bourbons, whiskeys, or second to none locally concocted expertly crafted cocktails the atmosphere welcomes you in as if you are returning to the dockside after day fishing off the coast of New England. Starkville and quite frankly MS rarely gets the privilege of enjoying a restaurant of this caliber. Let your mind enjoy my experience; although tempted to enjoy a Elmer T Lee 100yr whiskey, I started the evening with a spicy grapefruit margarita. Don’t let the name fool you, Parker put this together with the zest and tropical flavor of the expert bar tender he is. Yeah right up at the bar, great conversation as my next course is being prepared about eight feet away. The vibrant immersion into the experience of great conversation as my meal is being prepared in my peripheral vision was much like being at the chef’s table at Commander's Palace NOLA or Matt’s In the Market Seattle. Now on to a hearty soup to prepare my pallet for the best classic shrimp and grits I have ever experienced, all the while Brady is putting together the most delicious savory potatoes, I could not resist, I asked for a small side and he obliged- not to be missed if on the menu during your visit. Finally, let’s talk about the next great , and I mean GREAT pastry/dessert chef that will put all others from southeastern United States to shame. You must enjoy the inexplicably awesome desserts put together by the self taught Rain. Yes, just as rain nourishes the earth and brings forth joyful flavors and flowers to savor- Rain the chef will delight your pallet with rich chocolate confections in stark contrast to their underlying smattering of flavors. Finally, you must experience the carrot cake, like nothing you ever experienced. While it may seem far fetched, I will continue to make the journey from Dallas Texas to Starkville a few time a year to enjoy their restaurant and...
Read moreI was excited to try someplace we haven’t been to before and hadn’t been on a date night in a while. Things started off strong with being seated at our reservation time and service being good. We got spinach dip for an appetizer which was good but a little pricey for what it was. We ordered a ribeye rare and filet medium rare. I noticed the table next to us the lady had sent back her filet because it was not medium rare, she got it back promptly but mentioned it still wasn’t quite right. We finally got our meals and the server allowed me to replace the greens I preferred (which were waay too vinegary for me) for Mac n cheese. I cut into my steak and noticed it was medium instead of medium rare so I mentioned this to the girl who brought out the Mac n cheese side. I also mentioned this to our server that the other girl had taken it. I don’t know if it got lost in translation but my husband was about finished with his meal and I was still waiting on my steak which I had now ordered rare to make sure it was ok. I was about to flag her down and say I didn’t want it but it came that same time. It was cooked medium rare that time but I was already getting full from eating my French fries and side of Mac n cheese.
The food wasn’t worth the price at all. The steak wash was way too sweet for my liking. The Mac n cheese was very bland but I was able to add salt to make it edible. They don’t have a steak sauce option. The best part was the rosemary fries - those were really good. Save your $ for somewhere else. We spent $130 before tip on a mocktail, a soda, appetizer, and two steaks entrees. Better just head over to...
