College bars can be challenging places to work. Since joining the State College community, I have had positive experiences at Bill Pickles Tap Room on College Ave and S. Allen Street. Every time I go there, I'm positively greeted by doormen Jake, Eric, and Liam. Jake is exceptionally professional when he has to deal with unruly, intoxicated patrons, so I give him tremendous respect and hope management can reward him for his consistent professional behavior. In addition, you have to love having a hands-on GM with a smile. Brittany seats the guests, clears the tables, and sometimes, I think she cooks in the kitchen, too. I love going to Bill Pickles during Penn State football games and getting excellent customer service and experience because everyone is great there. They make you feel a part of their community. Check out their new menu! The food is excellent!

Popped into Pickles for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Our visit was during the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts so the town was busy as was every restaurant and bar. The inside area has a large bar and a big open door to a small outside deck along the street. There is no organized seating so - as the bouncer shared…..it’s every man/woman for themselves. We managed to score two seats at a tiny counter which worked for our party of two. We ordered smoked chicken wings, cornbread and a pulled pork sandwich (the punch and fluff) - all were delicious and reasonably portioned and priced. We also enjoyed a Paloma and a Gin Strawberry Lemonade - both refreshing on a nearly 100 degree hot and humid summer day. Definitely recommend for their bbq influenced menu and a beer or cocktail. (They also have a few NA beers and mocktails!)

Bill Pickles Tap Room in State College is a BBQ gem! Their Fresh Smoke pulled pork is tender and smoky, paired with house-made sauces. Smoked wings are flavorful, though not crispy as preferred—still delicious! Mac ‘n’ cheese steals the show, creamy and better than most. The vibe’s laid-back with a cool outdoor deck and killer craft beers. A must-visit for BBQ fans, but crispy wing lovers might ask for a quick fry. Great spot to chill and chow down

They changed their menu. It doesn't have any of their old favorites.

One server was scheduled for the lunch rush the Sunday after thr WVU night game. The place was admittedly pretty empty but the single server couldn't juggle his 4 tables. Took 15-20mins for menus. He never came back with our drinks so we had to get up to ask for them. When he came back with them he tried to walk away without taking our good order. I had already written the food order down on a receipt in my pocket and said "yo hold on" and gave it to him as he was walking away.

Food took about 25-30 minutes to come out. At thus point it's been about 90 minutes. None of the other 3-4 tables are happy either.

I got up to take my 14mo old for a stroll. Eventually my wife called me and said the food arrived.

We never saw the server again. I had to go to the empty bar for my check.

They never came to collect the check so I put $80 on the table to cover food, drinks and a very small tip and we left.

I worked at restaurants in State College for 6 years and there's no excuse for how poorly Bill Pickles was running that day....

Service getting worse, I've ate here many times and the waitresses always treat it like a chore to serve you and your friends and all of them rarely make eye contact or act friendly until they give your check. The bartenders of both sexes are always good though. The electronic dart boards are garbage and often don't register hits whether they stick or not. A simple flat head screwdriver would probably fix the problem as the board is blatantly loose. Good atmosphere, LOTS of nats and fruit flies in the warm weather.

Edit: This place is deteriorating every month. The service is getting worse, I've gone in there with friends and waited 15 minutes for someone to acknowledge our existence while staff messes with their cell phone, only to never get served and come to the decision to leave. I came to a mutual decision with friends that we will not go here anymore. Unfortunately I'm sure they will stay in business as demand is high here, but I can't support...

Let me first say this is my first review EVER on any service or app. I have been to here multiple times but I have never felt more disrespected or embarrassed in my life.

I was waiting at the bar with my card out waiting for the bartender then I get tapped on the shoulder saying I had to leave. When I asked why, all they would say is u have to go. Everyone is looking at me like I killed someone all because I asked for the reason why I had to leave.

I am the LAST person to pull the race card but this felt so targeted and unnecessary. I had one drink all night so I don’t want to hear that I was drunk. They wouldn’t even let me explain myself. I literally know some of the workers so this isn’t some random customer. I have spent hundreds here over the years and this is how my senior week goes.

First and last country night for me, doubt you mangers or owner cares but that was the most ridiculous situation I’ve...
