Generally, the food is good: fresh, tasty, decent serving size, good variety of options. If you have any sensitivities to anything served here, I would suggest not risking it - even when it's not very busy, the food gets flung around into all the surrounding ingredients in the chaos. I have tried both tofu options a couple of times, so have friends, and we all find it quite a rubbery, unpleasant texture, but tasty. The chicken is usually really good though. There is no consistency to the size of the scoop (partly because half the scoop is lost on its way to your bowl, hence the gamble with ingredient allergens/sensitivities), but you won't go hungry. Service always feels rushed, regardless of whether anyone else is in line. Very loud inside, especially when the grill is going, so you might need to yell your order. A good amount of seating inside and outside if you want to eat in. Having said all this, Roots is an easy go-to for a quick, affordable and wholesome lunch or dinner, and I do recommend it as take-out for...
Read moreStopped here while passing through State College for a quick and healthy dinner. It’s a counter service build-your-own bowl place. They have set bowls on the menu which you can customize or you can create your own from scratch. Very vegan friendly - there are 3 vegan proteins to choose from plus all the variety you can get from choosing different veggie toppings and sauces for your bowl. The prices are pretty fair. I did a custom bowl with the red chili miso tofu. I was very happy with it! The tofu was really tasty and crispy and the salad/grain base also came out really good. I liked that a lot of the veggie ingredients are seasoned (for example, I could have just eaten the chickpeas and sweet potatoes on their own) unlike some salad places that only have plain raw veggies. They only have disposable takeout bowls/cutlery even if you’re dining in, but the aesthetic of the place is kind of nice, and there’s also some...
Read moreIt's been a while since I've been here and decided to stop for lunch. Service was pretty good, but that was about it. I went to use the restroom and it was obvious it hadn't been cleaned in a while (there was a thick layer of dust literally blocking the entire exhaust vent). Half of the dining tables were dirty. I sat by the windows and the there was a layer of grease on the mullions. This was definitely one of the grossest places I've been in in a while. I don't mean to keep piling on but the choice of music picked could have been better. It's a good thing the sound system was cutting in and out so that you could barely make out the expletives of the songs. And to top it off the avocado in my bowl wasn't ripe. Peter and Parker must not stop in very often as I'm sure they wouldn't be happy with the...
