DELICIOUS! My husband and I stumbled upon Tasty K when it was closed between lunch and dinner. We happened to be downtown the following day and stopped in to check it out. There is only one thing on the menu — Korean Fried Chicken with either rice or fries. The girl ordering in front of us ordered “both sauces,” so we followed suit when we ordered our “Mini Tasty.” To be honest, we weren’t expecting to be wow’d, as there are other Korean fried chicken places in State College that are very underwhelming. But we were wow’d!!! The chicken was absolutely amazing — hot, crispy, and juicy. The sauces — I cannot say enough how delicious and perfect they are (we especially loved the “Galbi”). The fries were good and of course we dipped them in the delicious sauces. The portion size of the Mini Tasty was huge! We shared the meal and both ate plenty. We are foodies, love to try new things, and are always searching for the best restaurants wherever we go, so I hope that holds weight for this review and how much we loved Tasty K. We are still talking about how great it was!
Also — I read the Town & Gown article they have framed on the wall and that added to the experience of a delicious meal. Tasty K offers free meals for those in need and you can fund a meal for someone else. I also loved the Bible verses written on their windows and the cozy atmosphere. There is nothing more satisfying than supporting a small business that has delicious food, great values, and heart behind what they do. Very excited to continue patronizing Tasty K and highly, highly...
Read moreFood - 2/5 : For the amount of chicken provided in the box, it is not worth the money. 14.50$ for less than 350g of chicken (since they do add a hefty portion of fries in the box) would probably amount to a profit margin of 10$ assuming a generous cost of 6$/lb for chicken. It is hard to imagine more of a ripoff especially when this chicken tasty does not compare to half of what I had tried in Korea. I believe the Coop or Wings Over has a better price to taste value. Service - 3/5 : Nothing much to say here, they only seem to do take out because I didn't see any tables for dine-in when I went there. They just handed me my box and I left. Atmosphere - 3/5 : Looks clean. That's it. Nothing else.
Overall: Chicken here is not worth the price for the taste. I'd say for what I'm getting, I'd only pay 10$ for the box not 14.50$, so definitely not...
Read moreFirst takeout order from TastyK today. The place is tiny, very clean, and – perhaps most importantly – does not reek of fryer fat, so you don’t smell like oil after a short wait time of just under 10 min.
The staff is also super-friendly. The menu is small: you either get fried chicken, sauce & fries for one person, or for two.
We ordered the single portion. There’s easily a pound or more of boneless fried chicken pieces, along with a generous amount of crinkle fries. The chicken is juicy, crispy, and stays crispy, hot & fresh in the takeout box. The fries looked underdone, but were perfectly crispy on the outside, and fluffy on the inside.
This was enough food 1.5 lunches and will easily be plenty for another dinner for two. If you like Korean-style fried chicken and don’t care for a lot of variety, this is the place for...
