On my first trip out to Steamboat last month I stumbled upon this lovely little spot. Unfortunately my dietary restrictions prevented me from dining in.
This time I was in a much better position (save for a debilitating sore throat) and was excited to partake in the homemade famous cinnamon rolls (which have been featured in both Bon Appetit and Gourmet Magazine.
As it was late Sunday morning the place was bumpin', however we didn't even have to wait 5 minutes to be seated - and that's with a party in line ahead of us.
The server was attentive and pleasant, bringing my companion a coffee straight away. I do want to add that I was pleased to see that although this restaurant offers water to patrons they do not automatically bring you a water unless you request it - saving thousands of gallons of water (they had a little excerpt about this on their menu).
My companion went for the Country Fried Steak with biscuits and gravy which I was thankful to sample (we've been on a world tour of gravy and biscuits lately). The biscuits were out of this world delicious! Fluffy yet substantial and oh so warm. The gravy I wasn't wild about, can't quite put my finger on it - definitely not too salty though. The fried steak was cooked to perfection.
I myself went for the French Toast cooked with their world famous cinnamon roll dough. The portion was substantial but I found the toast to be a bit heavy and a little on the dry side - not to worry their maple syrup saved the day and we downed these within a matter of minutes. Not sure if I would order again, may perhaps opt for the Cinnamon Roll.
The bathroom was small but clean (there is one for men and one for women).
I will most definitely return here the next time...

Read moreCAREFUL! THEY WILL ROB YOU. I am 1,000% against tipping. People should be charged for what they buy and nothing more. But that's the damned culture we live in and while I ABHOR it, I usually leave a tip for services rendered. However, this cheap company sneaks in a forced 20% "gratuity" on the bill for parties. Forcing a gratitude is a disgusting practice. If I am grateful for the food or service I can add my own damned tip. They don't tell you about this forced 20% and as I stated, because it is the culture we live in, I usually grudgingly give 12% and occasionally 15%. My bill today was $75.11 subtotal, Tax was another $6.29 robbed from me (but let's face it that's a completely different argument). I'm even less grateful to the government, so why should I tip the tax??? They added $16.28 to the bill. I did not see this (which was my fault for not paying attention) but then I added another $15 (19% of the subtotal because I do not tip tax). So yes, I 100% feel robbed! they did not say anything about it, I do not recall seeing it advertised anywhere. IF I ever eat here again, it will be with a ZERO tip. You've already gotten the tip more ...
