Decided to check this place out after walking up the Mountain on Saturday. The African-American gentlemen host was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu, and made us excited about dining there. But we were soon to learn that the appealing exterior gives the place more value than what the food is actually worth. I spent $40 on Jerk queso, 2 oxtail tacos, with 2 sides (elote corn/rice) and a lemon alcoholic beverage. It sounds like I got a lot for my money but keep reading. The chips were very stale, couldn’t even bite through them. The “Jerk Queso” was so tiny you can hold it in between your pointer finger and your thumb. 2nd, there is no queso in it. It’s just of a clump of salt and jerk seasoning blended together. The term “queso” is misleading. It’s more of a garnish but way too potent for my liking. Their regular queso is just cheap highly processed cheese product, no real flavor profile. They put no effort into it. Next, I had the oxtail tacos. The host said it was their most popular item. There was literally a pinch of shredded oxtail in each taco. The rest of it was a bunch of what I presume to be Cotjia Cheese - but they put so much of it on it just all strung together and was impossible to chew. The taco shells were also tough to chew. Their “elote” corn was literally just a large spoonful of GMO corn from the can. You could also hold this one between your finger and thumb. I also could not taste the alcohol in their lemon drink. No one came to our table to ask how the food was. When I asked for a cup of water they said they had to boil it first and they hadn’t done it yet for that day. So we had to buy the expensive bottled water. I won’t even get into the shrimp nachos that my friend ordered. Just terrible. They have what looked like teenagers cooking back there. There is nothing Caribbean or Hispanic about this place. This place is very high priced for the lack of quality. Was very disappointed in our experience. We were still hungry after we left. only giving 2 starts because the...
Read moreGet ready for a lot of all-caps, because this place was SO GOOD. I am in a theatre production at ART Station, and my first rehearsal, just a few days ago, I came across a cast member eating the most delicious-smelling takeout. I inquired, and she told me about this place. That was five days ago, and she hasn’t shut up about the chicken bacon ranch taco 😂
I knew I had to try this place and I went today.
Let me start by saying, I was amazed to learn this restaurant is very new, recently opened. Everything I tried, tasted like an established, experienced restaurant that has been making these recipes for years. This is the kind of place I expect will eventually have multiple locations around Atlanta, because it’s just that good. Everything is so fresh and everything I tried just really hit the spot.
What I had: THE PINEAPPLE SALSA IS EVERYTHING. OMG. I DID NOT KNOW THERE COULD BE PINEAPPLE SALSA. I’m a gal who loves pineapple on pizzas, in chicken and tuna salads, piña coladas, ice cream, and I will never say no to a Dole Whip. I thought this would be a tomato salsa with bits of pineapple, but no. This was fully pineapple, and I think onions? I only know it was sweet, savory, salty, and basically checked off all the boxes for a great salsa.
The chips that came with it were absolutely perfect. Not too thin, not too thick, perfectly cooked, and the satisfyingly right amount of salt.
THE CHICKEN ELOTÈ TACO IS DIVINE. I will probably never try a different taco there, because this was a holy experience of chicken, corn, some sort of crumbly cheese, and these sweet pickled onions. And my god, the tortillas. chefs kiss
Black beans and rice were savory and delicious.
Staff was great, and I really like the ambiance of the place. I did takeout, and it was ready very quickly. I will definitely be back,...
Read moreI came here for my birthday for a quick lunch with my best friend. The tacos here are extremely delicious! I had the chicken elote and oxtail tacos. As filling as it was, I wanted more before leaving. The only thing that kept me from getting more was the fact that I was full. The sides are basic rice and beans but plentiful in serving. The drinks were really good and decently strong. Pricing is fair I guess but could be more affordable.
As for atmosphere, the place is quaint and nicely tucked in downtown Stone Mountain area. It’s not spacious inside. Maybe enough seating for 6 small parties and close enough for everyone to hear your conversation. The employees are friendly. There was a lady who was working in the dining area who apparently works there. My friend and I thought she was a regular patron so when she came to our table and asked to take a photo of our drinks, I asked if she was the owner. She said no, but didn’t clarify who she was so it presented as slightly awkward because now “who is this touching and taking photos of our drinks?” 😂 She came back around to us a second time and asked how we liked everything (still without an introduction) but after that we just assumed she was the manager or something 🤷🏾♀️. I would recommend an introduction in the future. I’m not sure if it’s ever a more lively vibe but I would definitely be back for a chill lunch break.
I have a video of the tacos but no photo. They looked as good as they...
