I eat here at least once monthly and never posted a review; and it dawned on me that's because I have never had a bad experience here but I should let others know how great the food and service is.
The pizza is excellent- thin crust and cooked in a coal fired oven - yes coal from Pennsylvania mines; it gives the pizza and wings a great flavor-some have described as "burnt" but that is not the correct use of the word---- even the "burnt" parts taste wonderful. And the wings are great- cooked in the coal fire oven and served with sautéed onions and Focacci Italian oven baked bread.
The Anthony's owner goes to Italy each year and personally selects the tomatoes which is the key to the pizza sauce; we usually take home a to-go container of the sauce because it is that good. My wife and I always share a salad for 2 and the dressing is homemade. Oh and the espresso and cappuccino etc are excellent each served with a sugar-stick and a piece of biscotti.
And they have a rewards program. As soon as you sign up, you receive a complimentary lunch size pizza and free pizza on National Pizza Day.
The service staff is well trained. Joey, Tim, and Bruce are great servers, know the menu and treat the guest with respect and are eager to make your dinning experience wonderful! When you want to order take-out, call ahead and Sophie will meet you in the Anthony's reserved parking spot for take-out, process your payment and hand you your order- you never have to...
Read moreLeft two stars and not one, because I managed to eat the so-called pizza without food poisoning. This is pizza for people with very low standards. Not sure where the high reviews come from, I'm guessing is from people who have no taste buds or don't mind that their food looks like someone "blew a motor" on their way to the worst hangover in history.
Generally, I don't use the word "gross" to describe food, as I don't want to be disrespectful, but having overpaid for what only a select few would call "food," I feel more of a victim than a customer.
First cold and soggy...a terrifying combination of stomach turning abuse. Second, I know what ingredients I ordered but the flavors didn't match. I tasted some garlic, too much used shoe leather, sweaty sock, and then of course dirt. Not sure how the earthy tastes came from, but it was there. So yeah, cold garbage. Third, crust...burnt crust and hard to chew the rest of the way.
I have had Anthony's before...and it wasn't whatever this was.
This was so bad I think I want to become a 5th Center Egyptian Monk quietly living the life of an ascetic surviving on meager portions, fasting constantly to gain a deeper appreciation of divine, and looking at this nonsense pizza as something to avoid.
Going to eat a salad and try to forget that this...
Read moreWe ordered two pizzas to go and 20 wings. I called at 6pm for an order pick up at 7pm. I said I could call later to place the order, I just didn't know how backed up they were. The person said that they would hold off on making the order so it would be ready by 7pm. I showed up 10 minutes early to make the payment and wait by my order was already sitting there. OK fine, not a huge deal but everything was cold/ room temp. so I am guessing that they made it right away. The wings were fine, cold but still pretty good. The carnivora was not great. There was around a couple of inches of bare crust all around the outside pieces with very little toppings. The toppings that were there just fell off because there was no cheese to hold them in place. Normally the pizza has a char on the bottom and is crispy. This pizza was just doughy and chewy. Looked like it barely touched the oven. My dog got a lot of crust tonight, so I guess that is good. In the past it has been great. Maybe the A team wasn't on tonight. I'll give them another shot, but this was...
