When I want something quick to eat, I sometimes consider fast food, depending on my level of hurriedness. But if I have more time, I try to step things up a notch, while still getting served in reasonable time. A restaurant that fits this description well is Gyro Republic.
Gyro Republic serves foods like its signature Rice Bowl, which is the choice I recommend. There are other options, too, like a pita, salad bowl, Gyrito Burrito, and several side options such as hummus, fries, falafel, and even an extra serving of meat, if you want additional protein. The options for meat/main ingredient include gyro, as expected, plus chicken, jalapeno chicken, combo of chicken and gyro, or falafel if you want to go vegetarian.
With the Rice Bowls and other options, you build your own, selecting exactly what you like, from the rice to the meat to the toppings and sauces. The food is hearty and satisfying. You leave feeling full and content, knowing that you just had a quality meal for a fair price. They have small dessert sides, too, if you’re still hungry or want a snack to go, plus bottled/canned drinks to go or fountain drinks if you dine inside.
As for the atmosphere, the interior is on the small side, but unless it’s lunch hour during the work week, you shouldn’t have trouble finding a seat. There is ample air flow from the ceiling fans, to keep things cool. Music fills the background, delivered from a radio station. You can easily hear it, but it isn’t so loud that it interferes with conversation. There is outdoor seating, too, if the weather is nice.
I like the quick service at Gyro Republic, the generous portions, and the quality of the food for the price. I also like that the menu isn’t overloaded with options because it makes it easier to make up your mind. It’s certainly a restaurant to consider visiting when you want a good, filling meal and don’t have...

Service Take out Meal type Dinner Price per person $10 - $15
Gyro Republic is a neat little place in this strip mall area. I wanted something a bit lighter for dinner and decided to try this place out! I was helped by a gentleman in a grey shirt, who I have to assume was either the shift manager or manager of the store. He was very friendly, and seemed to be training the younger folks.
The Gyro I got was excellent, loaded with meat and toppings. The white sauce was a fine substitute for Tzatziki.
You can add a drink + fries for $3, which I do not recommend doing.
My biggest complaint lies with the fries (pic included). I wanted to order fries to round out my meal, but I learned when I got home that the Gyro by itself (in pita sandwich form) was plenty of food.
I am 99% certain that they were supposed to be seasoned with fry seasoning, but the manager forgot to throw some on. One or two fries had a slight dash of what I have to assume was the fry seasoning, but overall the fries were mushy and tasteless. I did have to wait to get the fries, as they are made fresh. This would probably matter if the fries actually tasted good, but my waiting was in vain. The drink was small, and unless you are eating at the restaurant I would not recommend getting the drink.
I would probably go back if I wanted a quick Gyro, but I would not get the fries or drink again. Would definitley recommend getting either the...
Read moreSo here's the gist of this place --- its basically a gyro version of Chipotle. Down to the whole "Step 1, choose your base, Step 2 choose your protein, etc" style ordering lameness. If you're looking for anything resembling a semi-authentic Gyro situation you're better off going down the Grand Parkway @ Bellaire to Busy Boy Mediterranean Grill. I was kinda blindsided by that aspect of the place once I walked in but decided to give it a shot anyway, got a combo "pita sandwich" which came with chicken + "gyro" (I didn't ask what it was made of) and you got to pick what you wanted on it ala Chipotle/Subway in terms of veggies, sauces, feta, etc. Their sign says "don't skip the sauce -- trust us", but you only get three options for sauces, one of which is some kind of mayonaise based sauce --- there is no option for a traditional tzatziki (yogurt based) sauce which is just bizarre. It's a perfect sauce for this kind of food? Why wouldn't you offer it? It just seems like the concept for this place is purposefully over complicating and Americanizing something that needn't be dumbed down. It's 2021, most Americans don't need something like a gyro or falafel sandwich to be explained to them, everyone knows what it is.
The sandwich was fine --- ingredients were fresh, but I'll agree with someone who said the meat was a little too over-spiced. Meh, gave them a shot, but will just drive to Busy...
