I am very busy but I carve out time once a month to go out with my landlady and friend for dinner. Tonight we had yet another great experience at Keepers. It's probably been a year or more since we'd been here.
Unfortunately, I didn't get pictures. Yes, the food is amazing and fresh! We had the bluefin tuna sashimi, the Salmon sashimi special, seaweed salad, anago, Salmon roll and something "T" recommended called Angry Lion. All of it was delicious! I don't think I've ever had something I didn't' love here. We also had a dessert with fried bananas and ice cream that was the cherry on top for our evening. More on that below.
The atmosphere is 5 star, until it gets busy and loud which is why I gave the ambiance a 4. It can be OVERWHELMINGLY loud.
The real reason why I'm taking the time to write a review though, is because of the amazing service my friend and I received tonight.
We arrived just before 7pm and were seated immediately. Kudo's to the hostess team!
The 5 star of the night though, was our waiter "T". The service to our table was above and beyond. He rushed our orders in to accommodate the "happy hour" drink prices and even offered to order a second bottle and hold it for us.
He was patient with us as we'd just sat down but he also didn't wait too long to check on us. In a world where people prefer to feed up bad news over good, I didn't want this young man to go unrecognized.
At such a young age (I should know, I'm a mom of 6 grown adults), I was very impressed with his poise and hospitality. On top of checking on us frequently but quietly (so not in an annoying way), he was also open and warm. I asked him about his family background out of curiosity, he didn't seem put off by the question. He took a few minutes to answer, and we had a brief conversation, then he recommended something he thought we would like on the menu when we needed help.
I insisted on treating my friend and although I was anything but discreet, handing him the card with instructions, he was kind and handled the situation beautifully.
When he realized that he was being tipped extra, he asked us not to leave yet and, he took some of that tip and bought us dessert!
I'm speechless.
I'm an older person who has had a lifetime of world traveled experience. I've lived in Japan, England and NYC for example and I've been to Jean Georges, Del Frisco's and had service less than I received tonight from "T" at your restaurant.
Keep your eye on this young man. I see great things ahead! And "T"? Thanks for making our once a month dinner out a special treat!

Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went to lunch at Keepers on a Saturday. There was only a five minute wait. However the service was very slow. As for the food it was good. But not really more than that. I have lived five minutes from this restaurant for over a and have seen the crowds there daily. I finally got the chance to try it out and although good, I guess I was expecting a lot more because of the the lines and crowds. I had the ramen. And again it was good, but not anything spectacular. Although I could have eaten a bowl of the broth with sliced pork belly in it and been perfectly happy. The sliced pork belly in the soup was amazing! And of course who doesn't love a soft-boiled egg! I think what I liked least about the ramen was the actual noodles. They tasted a little like top ramen noodles straight from the package! We also split some sushi at our table and at best it was okay. I have had so much great sushi in Houston that it takes a lot to really impress me, it's a high bar! We got the angry lion and the Houston roll I can't remember the whole name of the Houston sushi roll. I didn't really care for the Houston version, it had a strip of meat on the top of the sushi that was a little bit chewy or tough and really didn't add any flavor to the roll! As for the angry lion it was the best role that we had and even that was not all that great. I felt the actual quality of the fish wasn't as expected. The texture of the fish was a bit mushy. We also had a Lexington roll and other than it looking pretty because of the different colored tomacco eggs over the top I don't remember much about that roll. I would say the best part of the meal was the tempura. The shrimp tempura and the vegetable tempura were pretty delicious. Although the sauce that comes with the temperature was a little flavorless. Also my brother had a bento box with the Chilean sea bass that was pretty delicious. I think I'll order that next time... if I return. The atmosphere was okay. Different than I had imagined with white vinyl or leather covered booths and a slightly more modern, almost Miami cheesy Decor thing happening. All in all. I liked it ok, it's convenient so i may try again, but with so many great options in the area it might...

When seated, patrons are typically handed a stack of different menus including a food happy hour menu, a drink happy hour menu and a pictorial menu that doesn't include all menu items. The photos & descriptions of the food items are not included in each menu so it is necessary to refer to one of the other menus while trying to make choices and determine which of those choices are featured during happy hour. Each person may not get all the menus, though, so may need to wait while the menu needed is already being perused by another table companion. Having multiple menus definitely lengthens the ordering process, is frustrating for those trying to decide and possibly contributes to "hangry" patrons. All the while servers are waiting longer for orders to be placed, making multiple unnecessary trips to the table.
Keepers would be doing themselves & patrons a huge favor by consolidating those to one user friendly menu. This could certainly streamline the process for a more satisfying ordering experience. Keepers would save money by having less menu expenditure and make money by turning more tables because of the shortened ordering process.
Soft drink orders are filled with a canned drink and a glass of crushed ice, so those refills are not free. Most local retaurants offer free refills which kids have come to expect so this is an unexpected expense when considering where to dine with your family. Using fountain dispensers for soft drinks could open the opportunity for free soft drink refills which would be more satisfying for the customer as well. Let us growups use our cash on an extra yummy cocktail while our kids enjoy a free refill. We might actually spend more!!
More expensive than most sushi places all the way around. You can easily drop $40+ on one person if you don't make budget...
