Urban Bird Hot Chicken — Restaurant in Sugar Land

I always have a craving for loaded fries especially when hot chicken and macaroni and cheese is involved. When I saw that there was an urban bird hot chicken restaurant near my house, I knew I had to try them at some point. Everything on their menu look so appetizing, but for this visit, I decided to order some of their more popular choices. Here is what I think!

♡ Half order of Urban Fries w/ Nashville Hot. 8.5/10! Wow, this was better than expected! These loaded fries were very tasty, and the chicken had the perfect seasoning, but the star of the show had to be the white cheddar macaroni and cheese. In my opinion, I think white cheddar just taste so much better, and this definitely did not disappoint. In addition, I personally think their bird sauce is so much more better than the sauce from Dave’s Hot Chicken. Dave’s sauce is a bit sweeter and reminds me a lot of big mac sauce which I do not like. Overall, the fries were pretty good!

♡ Waffle and Tenders. 7/10! For my tenders, I picked lemon pepper and Tennessee BBQ. I can’t complain about the chicken; they were pretty decent. However, I wasn’t really a fan of the waffles. By itself, they were really plain, and they only tasted good when they were doused in the butter and maple syrup. Either way, the food is still good altogether. Perhaps I expected the waffles to be a bit more on the sweeter side.

♡ Mango Lemonade. 8/10! Sweet with the right amount of tang! The mango taste was good and doesn’t taste artificial. This drink was refreshing with my meal! I also really like how big the cups are.

This was an extremely underwhelming experience! We were so excited about trying Urban Hot in Richmond, but our excitement ended the moment we crossed the front door. Place was not inviting whatsoever, employees hanging around talking without even acknowledging us. We picked up a menu and proceeded to order. Options aplenty but prices seem steep for what the place offers. We ordered 2 Sandwiches (no sides), a Chicken Tender basket with a side of fries, and two kids meals (chix and waffle; chix tenders), and an order of the Urban Fries. Total was $70.00… which would have been worth it if all stars were to align. We waited around 20minutes for our order to be done and when the employee came out to deliver it, things got even worse. The order wasn’t accurate and the employee gave us a very rude attitude making it look it was our fault the order was inaccurate. She proceeded to bring the order ticket and go line by line … when it was evident there was a mistake, she just went ahead and retreaded. We are normally not complainers when it comes down to going out to eat, but the service at this place is lacking to say the least. All the employees were apparently from Venezuela and no managers was in sight… very unpleasant experience. Needless to say, this was some and done...

Ordered delivery twice from here, first time was amazing! I let my girlfriend try it and she loved it as well! Chicken fried perfectly and the fries were hot, fresh and seasoned! I ordered the hot level and we both agreed it was the perfect amount of spice. We loved it so much that we ordered it again the next night to let her have her own order. I ordered the same heat level “hot” but this time the seasoning was unbearably spicy. I love spicy food but damn!!! Must have been a different cook because these felt like they could have been the “fire in the hole” heat level lol. The seasoning was caked on heavy and dark and unfortunately my girlfriend couldnt handle it and had to throw them away after two bites. I finished mine but it was definitely significantly spicier than the previous night. Like sweat/tears/snot level heat. Way too much to be an enjoyable heat. More like a “get a free tshirt if you finish these” heat. Nonetheless, i would get them again, i just hope i get a batch like the first ones. Spicy, in a good way. The second batch scared my gf away, but hopefully i can convince her to order mild next time. Based on my first time: 5 stars!! Second time: 2 stars. The fries were soggy, and again, way way too spicy. Hoping for more...
