First time trying this restaurant. Very nice place. Luisa was our waitress and she was very attentive with refills and sufficient check-ins with our table. Our meals were very good. My husband got Jalisco Quesadilla (Steak)- 5 stars. Kids got Arroz con Pollo (chicken with cheesy rice)- 5 stars. I got the Azul Bowl with steak- everything was great about it other than I felt like the steak was a little rubbery and bland compared to the steak on my husbands quesadillas. Otherwise my bowl got a 4 star. Inside and outside had very nice presentation!! Lots of walking room as well as seating. There is also a bar. Men’s bathroom has a changing table, which is a huge deal to a lot of parents!great job! We were able to sit outside, luckily it was not too warm out. Other than the cars on the street being annoyingly loud- (Azul can’t help that), the outdoor seating was very nice. There were 3 tvs outside, all showing the news. 2/3 of them had CC, which the one closest to us did not, so I wasn’t able to make out the news stories. I wish it had CC so I could watch and understand. As a guacamole connoisseur, Azul has by FAR the best guac. Their salsa was also very good compared to other salsas we have tried in the past. I wish it was chunkier, but the taste was divine. Parking was a nightmare, as it is shared with probably 15 other businesses. There is no place to turn around unless you want to get back on the Main Street and try again. Overall, very good experience. Would...
Read moreThere isn't anything about this mexican restaurant that makes it stand out from the many other mexican restaurants in the Azalea Square area of Summerville. The service was extremely slow and the food was bland. I ordered a Blue Bonita Margarita and it was so out of balance with the tequila overpowered the drink, so I could not taste the other ingredients. Plus the margarita came out halfway through out half way through the main course. The carne asada was very bland and the sides had no seasoning (steamed vegetables and the mexican potatoes had more peppers and onions than potatoes. Plus none of the plates had any garnishes (Pico de gallo, guacamole, etc). We ordered a cheese dip as an appetizer and it never came out or was ordered. My daughter and wife wanted sour cream to go with their dishes and they charged us $1 for little sauce cups of sour cream. When our server finally showed up to take our order, she didn't smile, didn't try to upsell anything, and didn't make us feel welcome. The manager took our drink orders initially, after about 10 minutes after we sat down. The restaurant's decor was brighter than the other mexican restaurants in the area, but the metal chairs the use are uncomfortable to larger body types. The restaurant is very noisy due to the dining room being open to the patio which is right next to Main Street and that...
Read moreService at 11:20am was nominal - the restaurant was sparsely populated, and the staff was neither hovering nor absent. Considering we were the third table to be seated, the food came out in an expected amount of time, neither fast nor slow.
Chips have minimal flavor, but are thick and cooked well. House salsa has a hint of smokiness, and while the flavor is light and good, it disappears instantly after tasting. No heat whatsoever, and very thin.
I ordered the lunch Chilaquiles. At first glance, it looks delicious. The flavors were interesting. The chicken was cooked well, and moist. The Chilaquiles sauce on the chicken was so, so much spicier than I expected. It tasted good, until my lips and tongue were out of commission from the heat.
The rice's taste, texture, and consistency reminded me of rice from a bag of instant Mexican Rice at the grocery store. I was really disappointed in the rice.
My son had steamed vegetables as a side - we both report that it was cooked perfectly and tasted great.
The prices were about $1 higher per item than I think they should be based on flavors across the board, though the quantity of food we received was adequate.
I will return in the future to try more of their menu, but unless I'm blown away, it will probably be my...
