After a gap of over 5 years, upon a friend's recommendation I started coming here since the last 3 months during lunch for the 'House Thali' that's currently priced at $11.99 (as of Oct 03, 2024) - and that's splendid in this overinflated and exploitative market. The food is consistently good: the paratha is soft and substantial in size, the curries are decent, and they give you two sweets (more than I care to eat in one sitting, so I usually take one home with my leftovers- usually rice; more on that below). About 5 years ago, I had an unpleasant customer service experience which led me to stop coming here. When I came back 3 months ago, I talked to the manager (owner?) in the front, who acknowledged that things used to be different but they've now changed the layout, menu, and at least part of the management and most staff since then. It's been a good experience so far ... until today. I'm disappointed to say that I had another bad experience today. My waiter was friendly to those around me, but cold with me for some reason. After taking my order, he asked for my menus, so I gathered them and placed them at the edge of the table - where they remained till the very end, along with the default plate (which isn't needed for Thali). When I was done eating, I asked for a box for the leftover rice. As he was bringing it, I realized I wasn't going to finish the two sweets, so I asked for another box for the kheer (rice pudding). The waiter told me that I'm only allowed to take the rice in the boxes he had available as it's *too big* for the kheer. That sounded so absurd that I blurted out wtf (the whole phrase), and he promptly scolded me to mind my language. Then he told me again that I can't get another box for my kheer as they had run out of stock of the smaller boxes, and I'd have to pay 25 cents to use the "bigger" box for kheer. Or wait 10 minutes, as they had sent a kid to get more leftover boxes of the right size for my kheer! We had an altercation where I asked him if he thought he was doing me a favor by letting me take my leftovers home, and I also questioned him if this was the management policy of the restaurant or a decision he was making by himself? I also asked him why they didn't buy the smaller containers *before running out of them*, and why he thinks it's ok to make it the customer's problem/fault by asking me to wait 10 minutes or pay $0.25? He muttered something, then pouted and said "fine" and agreed to *allow* me to take my leftover kheer in another precious plastic container of his without charging me. It's never getting old, this attitude problem amongst waiters that clearly stems from an utter lack of training that could polish off these rough edges and coarse communication that accompanies an inability to handle exceptions and customer satisfaction situations.

I was in love with the place, given how spacious it was for a cozy gathering with friends. Interiors were calming and pleasant on a hot summer afternoon. To get a good parking, we reached around the time they open. I specifically chose this restaurant since it offers a pure vegetarian cuisine. I personally feel that should be encouraged. Coming to food - I'd recommend the following: Starters: Samosa and Chai along with Dahi Papdi Chaat and Chaas (absolutely loved them) Main Course: 1. Achari Gobhi Paratha - Amazing taste, perfectly cooked and served with spiced up curd, onion slices and mixed pickle. 2. Chole Bhature - Bhature were soft and crunchy at the same time, hence very delicious. Although I felt like the chole needed to be soaked a little more for enhanced size and some more spices would have been great. 3. Amritsari Kulcha - This is another delight with potato filling, also served with Chole. 4. Methi Puri and Sabji - Large puffed up puris served with boiled potato dry sabji. The price didn't seem justified to me since you pay for just 2 puris smaller than a Bhatura. It's easier to make this at home. Taste wise, awesome. Desserts: 1. Choco Lava Cake: What a wonderful hot cake topped with vanilla icecream scoop and beautifully presented !! The cake contains egg and the waiter was kind enough to inform us beforehand. 2. Moong Dal Halwa: Must try!! I thoroughly enjoyed every bite of it. 3. Lassi: It was fulfilling but too sweet for my liking. Go for it if you don't prefer the previous two.

Delicious North Indian food. More on the expensive side, but very tasty. I've tried several items here, but here are some of my favorites: - Thaali/Bhel Thaali: All items on the thaali taste good (almost always). This is probably the only item on the menu that offers a great value for money :) - Mix Veg Korma: Ideal for the Indian Palette. Highly recommend. - Shahi Paneer: Yummy curry! But it's not spicy at all. I've requested them to make it "very spicy", but I still don't find it spicy :) - Chilli Thyme Naan: Mouthwatering. I generally like Naan, but I'm not a huge "Naan person" or anything of that short. The thing I love about Chaat Bhavan is how the naan can be (all of) soft, crispy and light at the same time! - Hara Bara Bhel: No idea why, but this Bhel makes me feel like I'm eating something super healthy :P Very tasty again. - Sabudana Vada: Tasty, but they offer like 2 Vadas for $8. Totally not worth it for the money you pay, but worth trying once in a while. Service is average overall. I've been here many many times and I've always asked them to bring the soup/appetizer first before bringing the main course. They've literally never done that -- they bring everything together (always!). Wait times can be really long during peak hours (Friday - Sunday evenings). Well lit. Good atmosphere. Must try! Edited this post after visiting here a gazillion more times :)

Another update: Aalu parantha is good though orders can be delayed. Both kulcha and bhatura come with the same type of brown chana (not the kala chana). Samosa chaat has more chana than samosa. Update: They are open on Diwali! Seems to be a really popular place and one can expect some waiting time. Was impressed by the dedication of the staff. Strongly recommend the samosas, pav bhaaji and paneer sizzler. They come with standard chutneys but I liked the addition of paapad and kachoombar salad to the pav bhaaji. Also try the masala soda. The prices are reasonable. Old review: They have the best chai! This place is fully vegetarian. Even the hyderabadi biryani just has vegetables. Service is really good- servers are busy but don’t forget a thing - very friendly. Food is alright. Portions are very generous. The pani puri was crunchy and served with a number of stuffings. The tangy water could have been better. The papdi chaat was good but needed more papad. The channa bhatura was standard. Channa was ho hum but the bhatura was decent. Ambience is very desi - full of Bollywood music and crying babies. Best for a big lunch gathering.

This is our go-to Indian place for vegetarian food. All pandemic we ordered or picked up food from here. Although there are tons of Indian restaurants on El Camino, this one stands out with superior food - on taste and freshness. We love many dishes namely - Chole bhature, makki ki roti-sarso ka saag, wada paav, parathas and thali. Thali has sensible portions that won’t put you in food coma. Staff is very welcoming and wonderful staff member Pankaj accommodated my food allergies. Overall a great place to dine in! Update: I reviewed this restaurant a month back giving out 5 stars. But based on today’s experience, I want to take off some stars. This is about the customer service which is really inconsistent. I am allergic to dairy and wanted to replace a dairy item from my house thali, last few times it was honored by a kind employee of the restaurant but today other servers refused even though this wouldn’t have impacted their business in any way, the restaurant was full. Indian restaurants doesn’t take allergy concerns seriously. I was ordering food from here for years, seems they wouldn’t be getting my business any more!!!
