Sadly disappointed with our experience. We look forward to a special, authentic Chinese meal for each December 25th dinner - our family tradition. This year literally left a bad taste in my mouth. Acknowledging it was turning into a busy night, we were there before 5 PM - early! By the time we left it was bustling and busy with dine-in and take out. Even with this consideration, I do not see us ever returning. I ordered from Dim Sum and my husband a meal off the menu. In short: The hot tea was quick and timely served first. Downhill from there. The Chicken Feet and Smashed Red Bean Pancakes were dripping in oil but tasty. We were served basic water, after requesting multiple times. The General Tso Chicken arrived - COLD. Yep. It took over 8 minutes to get anyone's attention to let them know. The server took the dish and reheated it, filling in the empty spots that my husband removed a few pieces, with 3 pieces of broccoli. During this time, the restaurant was suffering from a very high pitch sound due to the air flow. It only stopped when the door was open! I had to notify them of this, as no one seemed to figure it out. My Dim Sum Silver Noodles dish arrived. When I ordered it, I was torn between the standard Soy Sauce Stir-Fry Noodles and the new-to-me Silver Noodles. I never had the Silver Noodles and only had a photo to go by. So I asked for a description. The server looked at the photo and described it as noodles with bean sprouts, carrots and egg. I love bean sprouts! Egg is a nice occasional protein as I've recently stopped eating meat and poultry (the chicken feet were my special once a year treat exception!) Silver Noodles arrived.... not as expected. It had shrimp and LOTS of pork and NO bean sprouts! I tried to pick things out, but couldn't handle the greasy taste in my mouth after a few selected bites. Total disappointment. It was gross. Then the server brought the soup for my husband - AFTER he basically finished his entrée. Oh... as well as chow mein noodles! Aren't those supposed to be appetizers? Isn't the soup supposed to arrive before the entrée? Since my famished husband ate his reheated General Tso Chicken. The manager came pleased, thinking we were too. Humph. We explained about the food not served timely, in the wrong order, cold, misrepresented and that we will not be returning to this restaurant. His response was: I guess we need to re-train. I agreed. He asked if we wanted anything else. We declined and asked only for the check. He gave it to us... no consideration of our dissatisfaction... simply the full bill without apology. Bah. Humbug. I don't care that they have been open for over 30 years. This was not a good experience. Won't make this...
Read moreThe food here is delicious no doubt, however, we got the DISPLEASURE of having a man named JIMMY as our server. When ordering, I requested that half the order was to go. Jimmy got it wrong (which happens, people make mistakes). That was not the problem, what was 100% NOT OK was hearing him raise his voice across the restaurant obviously telling the other waitresses he was right. He took it further by never making eye contact or returning to the table to continue serving us! IT WAS NOT BUSY, there were only 2 other tables in the entire restaurant. I had to get up and ask the cashier at the register to bring duck sauce and chips bc JIMMY never returned. We were served the food by a very nice female waitress who also brought out food that was to go and parts of the order was doubled. When my fiancé and I finished eating, Jimmy returned to grab one small plate, only hers, and left all of the other dishes that were finished in front of me. This was a purposeful spiteful move of him being a child and having zero emotional regulation based on EGO and a wrong order. Jimmy is the guy that brags about working there for over 30 years and ACTS AS IF HE OWNS THE PLACE. Upon leaving, I was explaining what happened to the cashier & that I wanted to speak to a manager. Jimmy then came over and started SCREAMING BYE BYE BYE BYE BYE BYE again being disrespectful in front of the cashier, people in the resturant, and the waitress. Everyone witnessed it. Clearly, he still hasn’t got the customer service part right as a waiter after all his claimed years there. I work in customer service except it’s in the medical field…and I promise you this IS NO WHERE CLOSE TO IT.
So in final if you want great food but ABSOLUTELY HORRIBLE, SPITEFUL, EGOTISTICAL, & DISRESPECTFUL SERVICE at Toa Toa, JIMMY IS YOUR MAN.
The manager Nancy called me to apologize which was nice, but that was all. Nothing was done about the wrong order. I asked to speak with the owner, that also hasn’t happened. My grandparents had been taking me to the restaurant since I was a child for over 30 years. Shame that the SERVICE no longer match...
Read moreThis is my favorite Dim Sum spot so figured I’d finally write a review after 2yrs coming here. This type of restaurant isn’t as popular as it deserves because a lot of people are used to restaurant food saturated in fat, oil, salt, and spices. And they think because it lacks it, it’s less quality. But in fact, the food here is the BEST quality. Ingredients are usually fresh and delicious, boba teas taste amazing and flavorful, and their food is made to heal. It’s flavorful, hearty, and rich without being filled with fat and salt like what locals may confuse with americanised-Asian food. For example, if the lo-mein has no grease, is al-dente, has a creamy savory sauce, and juicy meat, it’s high quality! They’re so kind and patient when I come with my 1yr old son, my mom who asks a million questions about the menu, and my sister who comes ALL the way from GA to enjoy their food! My fav recommendations are the boba teas, their AMAZING homemade duck sauce and chili oil, their lotus rice, their beef congee, their stuffed eggplant, their shrimp taro dim sum, and their deliciously rich piping hot Hong-Kong coffee!! I hope my review paints a better picture of this...
