Worst service I have ever experienced in my life. I do not complain in general ever, and only once have I actually had to, unless service is horrendous. Our waiter did not refill our empty water glasses until asked, and even then, only once. Also, he blatantly ignored me and my friend when we said “excuse me” and tried to get the check and his attention, and he took 30 minutes in totality after we were completely done to bring us our check and to go boxes that we had to ask for multiple times. The food was mostly good, some things were just okay. We also had an issue with an item, the avocado bombs, half of which were inedible, as the avocado was visibly and physically unripe and hard, and he personally refused to comp it and told her that she was wrong, as my friend had eaten half of it out of politeness until I told her not to eat any more of it as it was simply unacceptable. As we spent $70, and the service was bad, we did not tip the “SUGGESTED” amount due to the server being rude and condescending. Here is the most shocking part of our visit; As we were leaving, he chased us down at the door and demanded that we tip him the suggested amount of $15, reasoning being that “I don’t make enough money from my salary, so you have to tip me more.” We would have had no trouble tipping the SUGGESTED AMOUNT if the service was acceptable. My friend works as a server herself and would never behave in that manner. That was so unprofessional and frankly inappropriate. I believe our treatment was due to our age as we look younger than we are, and he believed that he could just take advantage of us. Because we were over it and just wanted to leave without causing a scene, she reluctantly upped the tip amount by $10. I will genuinely be horrified if this situation is not rectified. Previously my friend had a good experience, albeit with her parents in attendance with her, but she was shocked at the...
Read moreI wanted to try this place out and considered this over Yanagi because we haven’t been here before. First off, we ordered a nigori and he said they were out- no problem. We ordered a different nigori and he didn’t say anything and just brought it out from the back and put it on our table. Didn’t open it for us, took our order and walked off. Come to find our appetizer never was put in and that became obvious when the check came. The ramen was the only thing that was decent. However, going back to the nigori- we tried one sip and realized it tasted like medicine and we said we are so sorry but we really dislike it and wanted to trade it out for something else. He said there was nothing he could do. Just annoying that there was 0 presentation, no pre-pour or anything. That would have given us the opportunity if he had poured it for us to say something. The bottle he left for us not only unopened but like the wrapper still on. On top of that and our appetizer missing, this dinner was a total flop and a sad misrepresentation of the 4.5 star reviews this place has. We asked what was good and it was our first time here. He had 0 suggestions on food and only told us the name of the drinks we were already looking at handwritten on a menu. As a previous sushi server at a place that grew from fast casual to upscale, this experience was disappointing and I am sad that I didn’t choose Yanagi, because their service is always on point and their food is delicious, and they wouldn’t have done us like this. Ya live and ya learn. I just started a new job and my partner wanted to take me out to dinner to celebrate. I gave this place a chance and I wish I could turn back time because it’s a bad dining experience and memory over a good day. This experience falls in line in my most memorable bad restaurant dinners in the top 5, for sure. So, I guess long story short- proceed...
Read moreI do food delivery and this is in the area I prefer to use as my starting point. I also have ordered take-out from time-to-time when I'm finished for the day. The sushi is incredible. I always get the tuna roll and another rotating choice as I like to experiment and try new things. I've yet to choose something that I don't absolutely love..
The entire staff with whom I dealt is incredibly friendly and helpful especially Annie & Sri.
Annie is one of the kindest, sweetest, caring, smartest, hardworking employees that I've ever witnessed and I was a manager in sales & service business for over 30 years. She really cares and takes pride on being the face of the business as she is the first and last person that most customers see.
If I were in the area full time, was still working and had ANY type business in the city, she would be one of the first people to whom I would offer a job with pay that she just couldn't refuse and I would absolutely steal her away from this business. She's such a good person and an absolute gem.
(I hope that y'all take care of this gal because I know that every other customer that comes into this restaurant sees the same things in her that I do and just might be thinking the exact...
