Limited Selection in the early morning?? Why??

I will start off by saying this place has the best donuts in Austin, at least in my opinion. I've been here 4 times now, and each time I've been very impressed with these delicious treats!

However, I'm deducting 2 stars because I've been a little annoyed with each of my visits. Im a big lover of Apple Fritters, and I'm really eager to try it here, along with their blueberry fritter. I've typically come around 10am on a Saturday and there's a long line, typically takes 20-30 minutes to get to order your donuts/coffee. By that time in the morning, at least on my 3 separate visits, the fritters are all sold out, and so are some of the more popular varieties of gourmet donuts. So I decide this morning to come nice and early, 6:45am on a Saturday, in my attempt to beat the crowd and actually be able to buy a dang fritter. Lo and behold there are no fritters this early, as they don't set those out until sometime after 8am? Also the donut case was only about half full, not many selections available when they first open? I drove all the way down from Leander to try to beat the crowd and get a fritter, only to find out that the selection is extremely limited early in the morning. So i guess on weekends there is a only a one hour window where fritters are available.?

I've never seen a donut shop not be fully stocked and ready for business immediately when they open. It was extremely disappointing to arrive nice and early only to find the donut case missing all the delicious gourmet donuts and fritters. Alas, that's life sometimes, I'll try again...

Upon arrival on a Saturday morning with a line out the door, I had high expectations. The location is in a large strip mall meaning that you have to go out of your way to go here for breakfast donuts and coffee. The line out the door and almost sold out varieties of donuts gave the impression of something great inside. The line moved slowly and when we finally reached the counter, service was very mediocre. There was nothing particularly friendly or efficient about the service by any means. In particular, the cashier was more obsessed with stamping bags than he was with ringing up purchases.

Now on to the food. We ordered four donuts, two cake and two yeast, all with different toppings. The donuts themselves do not stand out as special by any means. If it weren't for the toppings, they would be very average donuts. The toppings overall didn't wow us either. Whipped cream and a cut up strawberry do not make an average donut that much better. I will say, the highlight was the brown butter payslip l pistachio glaze on one of the donuts. I would have loved that glaze on a moist cake. Despite the tasty glaze, the actual cake donut was probably the driest and most disappointing of the four we had. And at $3 a donut, we were very disappointed.

I love supporting small businesses and have no problem paying a premium for good products. The donuts we average and service was just as average. This place has potential but they need to work on the actual...

For any potential employees, do not work here. I was at this shop for a little over a year and can personally tell you it is unlike any other job I’ve had. Covid exposure issues aside, Ryan (the owner) does not care one bit for his employees. No matter how good of a worker you are, you won’t get your promised raise every 3 months and you run the risk of having no work-life balance working here. Not only that, but female employees have a much harder time getting any kind of promotion and if you do, you will not get as big of a raise as the male employees. A female employee had voiced her concerns about the shop and got fired and countless employees have walked out due to the work environment. Turnover is crazy and you will most likely be working a ton of overtime, then get chastised for it. Chris, the manager, is completely disorganized with keeping the shop running, he will also reschedule your meetings at least twice and still show up 30 minutes or more late. Personally, he also shorted my pay and took entirely too long to correct it and my final paycheck was still short. Along with that, Chris tried to give me more responsibilities just to get the amount I was promised in the first place, which happened multiple times. They look for people who are easy to take advantage of, so know your worker’s rights if you do decide to...

I should’ve paid more attention to the bad reviews pertaining to gf. Guess I just hoped that over time things had changed. *First off, don’t waste your time if you’re going in for gf. The size of the donuts is incredibly small especially for the price, doesn’t even fit in the palm of my hand. *Secondly, these are cake donuts, not raised yeast. *Thirdly and I think most importantly, the donut itself tastes like they bought gf pancake mix and used that to make these. There’s like a premixed quality to them with an aftertaste of xantham gum. Pretty disappointed I ordered one of each flavor (except the Homer glazed ones) and could barely stand the taste. Past the price point for size(almost $4/each), they just tasted terrible. <If you want real yeast gf donuts, Breadish @ sfc farmers markets say & sun truly nails it and they deep fry in coconut oil>

Unimpressed with the reasonably-priced wedding cakes we tried, my husband and I opted for a donut "cake" for our wedding last month. We wanted to make sure it would look upscale, so Bougie's was our first choice. I worked with Ryan and Brenna to create a style theme and determine the number of donuts to order. They did a fantastic job and the donut tower turned out beautifully (Thanks to Austin Occasions for the set-up and decoration)! We did have quite a few donuts to take home with us but that was mostly due to many attendees calling it an early night and (foolishly) passing on dessert. We gave some away and froze the rest to eat on each month's anniversary. I'm very happy we chose to go the donut route for our wedding and highly recommend them!

We have been to Bougie’s several times now and each and every time the glaze yeast donut and kolaches are absolutely outstanding. Definitely their best items on the menu. The cake donuts are definitely better than most we’ve had (not dry and enough icing) but not as good as their regular donuts. Their coffee is average. They usually have a donut of the month which is fun! The main reason for 4 stars is it is pricey. For 6 donuts, 4 kolaches, and 1 black coffee it’s $28. They’re very good so it’s worth it but just know it’s a treat. Additionally, it is very rare that they are nice unfortunately. Of the 4-5 times we’ve gone they’re not very nice but again their donuts are great so definitely give them a try.
