I have been to Poetree two or three times now, and each visit was a pleasant experience. Decent food, drinks, and dessert with cute decor. I would consider it a good casual date location.
For those who frequent the Duluth area, I would compare Poetree to Danmooji in terms of food, but Poetree has more American fusion items available (e.g. pastas). Some people like Poetree more, others like Danmooji more. To each their own. I think each location has its own signature dishes. At Poetree, I have tried the following (either my own dish or a sample of my friends'):
Regular Dukboki (spicy rice cake): Sub-par. Danmooji is definitely better for the regular dukboki. And personally, I prefer the Korean supermarket snack bar dukboki better than Poetree's.
Marinated Chicken Dukboki: Just okay. Less flavor than I wanted, but decent.
Donkatsu Kimbap (rice roll): Delicious! Try it. If I recall correctly, I liked it more than the tuna. It's probably my favorite thing on this list.
Tuna Kimbap: Also delicious, and probably on a similar level as Danmooji's famous tuna kimbap. But then again... I'm pretty bad at distinguishing differences unless I eat them back to back, so don't be disappointed if I'm wrong.
Donkatsu (fried pork cutlet): Standard. Can't mess up donkatsu.
Seafood Pasta: Pretty good. I think the pastas set Poetree apart from other Korean restaurants. Very rich and creamy. I'm glad I just had a few bites of my friend's, though.
Dessert Waffle: Also standard. You could probably find better dessert waffles at Korean bakeries or dessert shops.
Overall, the food is decent. Not mindblowing, but I still finished my plate and left with a smile on my face. I recommend sharing a few plates with a group of friends, because they have so many options. Despite the just okay food, I give them a high rating for the decor. Both the interior and exterior are adorable and set a great environment for a date with friends or significant other at a...
Read moreSaw this place on tiktok and decided to give it a try. Did not have a good experience. Walked in and was shown a table to sit. When the Waiter came the first time she litterally dropped the menus on the table and said "these are our menus" and walked off. When she returned she had her pad ready and said can I have your order. I asked her name and she just looked at me. I asked again and she mumbled her name and said why you need My name, I said I just like to know who my server is in case I need something. She mumbled her name again and I THINK she said Alicia or something close to that. I wasn't going to ask again so I just said okay and proceeded to explain that this is my first time here and asked what do you recommend, what's popular? She said it's completely up to you, I replied well I know it's up to me but im asking you for a recommendation she basically shrugged her shoulders and then said just read the menu there's a short description of everything, I said okay and just showed her the tiktok video that brought me there and said just give me these items please. She later came back with a plastic reusuable bottle of ice water and some metal cups and just put them on the table and walked away and she then also brought something that I'm assuming is an appetizer but didn't even tell me what it was. Again just dropped it on the table and left. It looked like diced cucumber or maybe a fruit and one had a sauce on it and one didn't. No idea what it was so I didn't eat it. Food finally came, didn't take too long and was served hot and it was pretty good, but it wasn't good enough to make me want to go back with the horrible service I received. So I will not visit this place again there are other places in the area similar to this one and I'll go somewhere else next time as I value...
Read moreRude service from the young girl working the register
I was here on Sunday at about 9:30 because it was one of the only places (that I knew of) where I could get patbingsu because I am not from around here, or even the state for that matter. When I got there I asked for the takeout menu and i didn't know that there was a separate menu for the cafe so I asked if they had bingsu and the young girl at the front took the menu out of my hands and gave me the cafe one. My mom mentioned that she wanted a tapioca smoothie so I ordered her one but the young girl interrupted me and told me that it would take 15 minutes to make and that they were closing soon (there was 30 minutes left). Now, from experience in the food business I felt bad and decided I wouldn't get it (she wasn't going to make it anyway) but my mom left very unsatisfied. I didn't try the food and im not sure that I will return unless there's better service. The bingsu was a little on the pricey side and I'm not too sure it was worth it. I also didn't feel welcome which is what usually happens whenever I enter a korean restaurant.Guess it's my bad, should have known better. I give it two stars because I did enjoy...
