So first off I just wanna say that the people who run the business are not racially, friendly to Black people. yes, they’re definitely racist to the black culture. It all started when I placed an order to DoorDash and this restaurant delayed my order by 50 minutes in total. I called them 2x for clarification about my order being finished or it being close to done. Because I was confused on how it takes 50 minutes to make 6 tacos. They told me my order was done and they were just waiting on a dasher. So I waited an additional 30 minutes. I called them again and told them after waiting another 30 minutes that I am just gonna come pick up my order itself. When I got to the restaurant I got my order and confirmed my name was “angel” the person who called 3x and there’s was a delay with my DoorDash. They handed me my order . I sat it down on the table next to me so I can grab some salsa at there salsa sation. One of the lady’s that worked there tapped me on my shoulder and had my order in her hand and said. Can you confirm for me. And I said “ I already confirmed and that’s my order. Then the dasher was standing next to her and was saying it was there order to drop off. She continued to ask me to confirm. And I showed her from the door dash app that I’m Angel s the person who was coming for my order. Then she handed to me after refusing to give me my order when I confirmed it from the beginning. The only reason she thought I would steal an order because my appearance. I’m the only black women in this Mexican restaurant. The advice I have to any African American that orders from here or is considered it is that you should think about how you value you customer service. Alought of Mexican restaurants have animosity and hate towards African Americans or give them a harder time because they think they are more superior than us. When we all experience racism. So why be rude to me and embarrass me in front of your restaurant when u have most likely experienced racism and you know it’s not a good feeling. And to mention I’m 5 months pregnant and the steak tacos I had...
Read moreI just came into el sabor and ordered to go for my family about $55 + 20% tip. When my food was ready, I went to my car and unfortunately my key card used to unlock it would not work. My phone had just run out of batteries after a long day at work. With my order still in hand, I went back in, explained my situation and asked if it would be possible to charge my phone so I could call my husband or use their phone. They said they did not have a charger (understandable) but also, they would not allow me to use their landline phone (sitting right there next to the register). There with the order I just paid for, I sat for a few minutes, then had to resort to asking a table of their customers to use one of their phones, someone kindly allowed me to do so. Not sure why that would be something they would be ok with but not allowing me to use their phone.
Having explained my situation, asked politely, and being a customer in their restaurant I feel terribly about how I was treated. I quietly left my food order, still in its bags on the counter. I did not request nor did I want a refund, I ordered and purchased the food, but but I would not be able to enjoy it. I calmly told the woman behind the counter that I did not want the food and felt that she had been unkind. Had the tables been turned, I would’ve helped her.
I waited outside for my husband who I was able to reach on the strangers phone.
It is common decency, good customer service, and good for business to allow a customer in a situation like that to use your phone.
Honestly, this situation makes me feel more sad than mad, that they would treat someone that way.
I come to El Sabor every once in a while and tell my friends it’s one of the best taco spots. Had they helped me I would’ve thanksd them profusely and returned frequently. But based on this experience, I will no longer recommend or visit...
Read moreThere's no words for how fantastic this place is. I really cannot express how much I love this place, and how often I hear about other folks coming here. The food is fantastic and varied, the drink options are incredibly numerous, and oh my god the salsa, dip, and toppings bar is (a little short, I'm 6'3") such a fantastic thing! Their avocado salsa is such a staple of their salsa pallet. They recently updated their seating arrangements and they're very sleek and comfortable. This place cannot be replaced and is easily huge part of James Center and the greater TCC area. Oh and the prices! The prices are what cement this place in it's number 1 spot. Here's hoping they never have to raise their prices too much.
Edit: Spelling
Edit 2: I've had to bring my review down a star. I live further away now, and have had to start biking here, but the have no bike racks at this business. They can ask the city to install bike racks for free! Second, their ADA access is severely lacking. They'd rather have 1 extra parking spot then have a disability access entrance on the north side of the building.
Also, they've changed. You can longer fill your own chips bag or salsa cups. They never have mango jarritos anymore, the best flavor of jarritos. And the prices have gone up about $2-4$ per item. I can understand this for some of the more material and labor intensive food items, but a simple burrito with no additions used to be $6, and is now...
