The Greeks Taverna — Restaurant in Tarpon Springs

I had eaten at their food truck a few times. There are a number of Turkish restaurants that are serving real doners. 99% of Greek restaurants serve the fake conical beef/lamb mixture which Americans think of as gyros. This place serves real pork and chicken gyros. It is authentic. In fact, it is the best gyro meat I've had in the United States. I grew up on Thessaloniki gyros so i know what im talking about. None of the other restaurants in Tarpon Springs know what they are doing or are too lazy to make a real gyro. Their horiatiki salad was excellent as well. Absolutely phenomenal experience at The Greeks Taverna! The pork kondosouvli was unbelievably moist and flavorful — true melt-in-your-mouth perfection. The pork gyro was freshly made and packed with authentic taste, and the lemon potatoes were bright, zesty, and cooked to perfection.

From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere transported me straight back to Greece — warm, welcoming, and full of life. This gem came highly recommended by none other than the one and only King of Tarpon Springs, Nick Badabing. And as a fellow Greek, I can confidently say: they know what they’re doing. This is the real deal.

It is very loud in there. And having large families with a bunch of kids makes it louder and obnoxious. They did not have lamb yero meat. The pork yero was dry. We asked for the flaming cheese. It was not flaming but cooked and browned. The Greek salad that we ordered had no potato salad like many who come to Tarpon are accustomed to and enjoy. It was tough meat and expensive for what we got. Quite a disappointment honestly, especially since we were recommended the place. We sat outside since it was so loud in there and the parents were not keeping their children quiet. We got eaten by mosquitoes. Nope....
