I have always enjoyed Virg's. But the customer service I received today was horrible. In fairness. It started out fine. I ordered the 'Country Breakfast which was 2 eggs, requested scrambled well done. 2 Bacon, ordered crisp and biscuits and gravy. When the my plate came out, the eggs were cooked 'over hard' not SCRAMBLED WELL DONE. I pointed that out immediately. And the server just shrugged and Said they were scrambled and walked away. When she return a while later, with bill in hand, I again pointed out the eggs were absolutely not scrambled well, but we're cooked over hard. She literally huffed heavily, rolled her eyes (YES! Rolled her eyes) exhaled heavily and looked back towards the kitchen like she was forbidden to taken back any errors for correction and otherwise didnt even offer to do so. So I told her if all she was gonna do is huff and puff and roll her eyes I would express myself online. So here is where I am at.She walked away.
Horrible Virgs!! I will likely never return to your establishment and will never offer a good review if anyone asks.
What happened Virgs? You have always been a step above the rest. A favorite of mine! I am more than disappointed in my experience in your establishment today.
While I was writing my yelp review, she came back and asked if everything was ok. I told her NO and would be leaving soon.
Then she asked if she should have my food remade.
NO! Its a little late now!
This was the first time she offered to have the food re-cooked. When everything was already long cold and I was about to go. At this point, i would have been leary to eat anything being recooked after it took me addressing it 3 times and it not being resolved immediately when I was served.
It was about this time, it seems that she made the other server aware. Because that server came and asked if she could do any including offering a discount. I declined and said I was leaving. When I got to the cash register, knowing that they all now knew about ny unhappy experience, the cashier (whom seemed be a charge) actually asked if I was gonna tip. OMH! Really! Not even, asking for me my version of what happened. I did tip against my wish to do so and Said I would never return. All she said, rather than try to address or resolve the issue was to say, that one server doesn't speak or represent All of Virgs and the server would be spoken to.. I almost laughed at her - having not even tried to address my poor service and experiemce, and I said, today it does. I turned and walked away.
Here is a picture of how my scrambled eggs looked, I tried to eat them,...
Read moreVirgs is an old fashioned diner kind of tucked out of the way but easy to find with plenty of parking. We try to find a local restaurant rather than a chain and someplace new so we found Virgs. The appearance and environment were a little disheartening with broken, random game machines in the vestibule and green duct tape on the benches but once we sat down that didn't matter. They do need to change something in their washing process as the silverware had a film and my glass had a bitter taste on the rim like soap residue but was fairly minor. Service was excellent (thank you Tony!) and frequent but not intrusive. Clam chowder side was very good and wife commented same about her salad with real bleu cheese dressing (on the side as appropriate). Shepherds pie was was huge and fabulous although not a true pie as there was no crust, just the contents in a bowl. Wife had hot roast beef which was huge, tasty and tender. Last was the hard part. My young son is very particular as he can only tolerate certain tastes and textures. He had the half grilled cheese which he ate down to the last bite which is totally unknown with him. He also had a reluctant taste of my clam chowder and stole the rest of it! He even tasted the gravy on the roast beef and liked it. The completion was a complimentary scoop of ice cream (wife and son had strawberry). Both of them ate theirs completely with my son licking the bottom of the bowl (all this for a boy that is usually satisfied by a small yogurt or half a dozen club crackers); he ate more in this meal than he normally would in two full days which was gratifying for a perpetually underweight child. All this was especially nice as we came right at the end of service. We would certainly recommend it although the decor and neglect might be a turn off for some, the food was good and the...
Read moreSecond time eating at Virg's, first time eating breakfast. Went here because Penny Ann's Cafe had a 90 minute wait, and there wasn't a wait at Virgs. I was hoping for some good home-cooked food with generous portions, but was disappointed.
My wife got biscuits and gravy, and I was expecting two large homemade biscuits, slathered in sausage infused gravy. What she got was two small biscuits that looked like they were from a Pillsbury can, eggs, and 3 links of overcooked sausage links for $10.50. I was so weirded out that pancakes or toast weren't offered for a dish that expensive.
I got a chicken fried steak, and it was pretty good. I was weirded out that pancakes weren't included like every other diner place like Jim's, Village Inn, Denny's, Penny Ann's Cafe, etc... It was an upgrade and that wasn't listed on the menu. Pancake was good but only a single one instead of a stack.
My 3-yo old got a cheeseburger & fries (drink not included, $2.20 extra). Fries were miles better than the last cold soggy experience I had at my first Virgs visit. Fry sauce comes in a big bottle, very cool. Burger patty was thin, which was okay, but its texture and taste was like burnt cardboard; it was shockingly bad.
Service was good overall. Kind of weird to walk in with no greeting, it was about a minute until an employee told us to seat ourselves, which is not how it is done at the Tooele location.
Men's bathroom wasn't the worst I've seen, but it could have been better.
I gave Virgs a second chance but won't be returning. I would put Virgs at the bottom of any breakfast place I've ever tried. Even if the food was prepared better, other places offer more for less. There is a reason why some places are booked hours in advance and...
