It’s pretty hard to find a decent Mexican restaurant in Tehachapi. Luna’s is a new place and had good reviews so I decided to give it a try. It was just ok, not great not terrible. I’m not expecting super authentic food up here, but this was a let down:
The menu is small which isn’t a bad thing, it usually means they can focus on specialty dishes and quality over quantity. The chips and salsa (which are usually a good indicator for how good a Mexican restaurant is) really need work, the regular salsa has absolutely no flavor to it. The spicy salsa is good. Even the chips were cold and stale.
I ordered the Chicken Enchiladas and although they tasted fine, my gosh, they were so dry. Barely any sauce at all. I’ve never had dry enchiladas before, now I know they exist (outside the freezer aisle). The spicy salsa I dumped on them saved the enchiladas.
Prices are good, for an entree and a drink it was less than $20, so that’s a plus.
Please season your food more and for the love of God, add more sauce to...
Read moreWe are so sorry over the fact that Luna's Mexican Grill has been here many years, and I don't know why we have never tried it up till today. Maybe because it's not in the best location, not visible from the street, just quietly tucked hear at the back of the parking lot of the sure Stay Hotel. They absolutely have the best Mexican food in all of tehachapi, hands down! The restaurant is so incredibly clean, the employees work so hard and bend over backwards in every way possible to make every customer happy. The food is incredibly fresh and authentic. Best homemade chips in town. Best chile relleno , beans and rice we have had in years! And don't let the fancy storefront or restaurant fool you, the prices are very very reasonable. No more expensive than any other Mexican restaurant around. I honestly think everyone, especially the locals in Tehachapi should at least give them a try once. They truly deserve it in every single way. Absolutely Five Star All The Way! Will be back tomorrow for...
Read moreThe chips were good although cold, and the salsa was tasty but not hot.
I had the chili viano which was very good, the rice was fair and the beans were good. I got a few flour tortillas that appeared to be handmade with it and they were pretty tasty but not great.
My partner had the floutas which apparently is a fancy word for taquitos! She said they were okay but seemed as if they were packaged as they weren't very crisp and didn't have the right consistency of a fresh flauta.
We asked for a small bowl of hot sauce and it wasn't very hot, also not chunky. Both salsas are very liquid in consistency.
Overall decent, but not great like some of the reviews led...
