Costco Food Court — Restaurant in Tempe

I visited the food court at the Costco located at 1445 W Elliot Road in Tempe, Arizona. Let’s start with the bad. There is only one register operated by Costco staff and it only accepts cash. I prefer to use my Costco Visa because of the cash back benefit. For Costco members using credit cards, the only way to order is by using the self-service touchscreen kiosk. Studies have found that self-serve kiosks are often contaminated with fecal bacteria as well as Staphylococcus, Listeria, Klebsiella, Proteus and Enterobacter, so I truly prefer not to use them when given a choice. Now for the good. I ordered a slice of cheese pizza and a drink. These two items used to be sold as a combo for $1.99 + tax, but Costco has separated them, bringing the total including tax to $3.01, which is still not bad. There were a couple orders ahead of me, which were filled pretty quickly and then then I received my order. Lots of pizza reviewers would be horrified by how floppy the crust is on a slice of Costco pizza, but it still tasted good and it was hot and fresh. I have previously tried the hot dog/drink combo as well as the polish dog/drink combo. Unfortunately, Costco no longer offers the Polish dog. I usually enjoy going to Costco Food Court because of their menu (the chicken bakes and pizza in particular). However, when I went to this food court today and ordered a whole pepperoni pizza, one employee at the front shouted out it would take 40 minutes. I ordered at 12:40 PM--the pizza actually finished at 1:10 PM. The employee who said it would take 40 minutes basically gave me the brush-off when I went up to inquire about the order. Didn't bother announcing the order number when it was finished, either. Incredibly rude and unprofessional.

I wasn't the only customer who was kept waiting for their whole pizza orders (at least three of them had to ask upfront). Only when my husband actually asked for a refund did another employee suddenly remember the order was done. By then the pizza was barely above Arizona's ambient temperature, and two of our perishable groceries were starting to turn (ground beef and pork loin). Overall first impression: disorganized and unprofessional customer service, not purchasing from this Costco Food...
