Engrained Cafe — Restaurant in Tempe

This is one of the best places I’ve found on asu campus that has some good vegan options. They’re really trying to be futuristic, sustainable, healthy and tasty. I wish more establishments on campus were like this place!

Edit: went back today, beginning of '25/'26 school year. It's still nice to see the free drinks included and the free chips, but sadly they didn't have a VEGAN option on the menu. They had about 2 dishes that said in writing that they could be made vegan, including the vegetarian burgers so we ordered that and were very clear and repetitive clarifying and asking it to be made vegan with no eggs, no dairy, no butter, no meat, please no brioche bun (that it comes with). The cashier kept saying she understood, but she didn't seem to really understand, thus I was very careful to explain it to her. Anyhow, the burgers came out on brioche buns (eggs). We asked the server if they were vegan and he said NO and took them back. He had them remade without the brioche buns but sadly this took quite a long time - wish we hadn't bothered them. Hopefully they get an actual vegan entree again, like in past years, and will have better training for the staff. Really hoping they improve, so had to knock off...

Used to eat at Engrained regularly in the "before time". Loved it. Had a lunch meeting there for the first time since last year. The food was surprisingly mediocre, especially for the $10-15 price range. Four people in our group (including a job candidate) and nobody was thrilled with their food. This place is kinda weird in that it's in the middle of the ASU food hall building and is kinda hard to find, and the system of ordering and getting your food was confusing and not fully explained at first.

However once I got it I really liked it. The food was really good, they have free drinks, and even were giving out free sides of potato chips too. And they have a lot of vegan/allergy...
