I do have to say, I would have given this place 4-5 stars perhaps last year. But this year, 2024, the quality of education is plummeting. The staff are under paid. Teachers do not feel like teaching anymore. The overall happiness of employees and students is low. 2025 update. Well, basically yeah, the higher level classes you take the worse it gets. Now you might think that higher level classes are more lab oriented and experiment oriented but no, it is just the same thing over and over again. It is lectures and paperwork all the way through. Moreover, they try to cram so much into a single semester that some teachers are complaining about not having enough time to cover the material. There are lots of students who just cheat through I have heard. How are you ever going to become an engineer if you have not built and designed something with your own hands? The lies propagated in the engineering summer camps are not correct, in order to follow that line of thinking you would be better off on your own. This is especially true nowadays with the internet, you will be physically healthier too because you can control how much work you put on yourself. Employer's standards are so high that even with a PhD or a masters they will take someone with a bachelors with experience over someone with a masters with no experience. To top this one off, once you finally get into the company they will require you to now get a masters if you want a promotion, not all companies are like this though. So at the end of the day it is a rigged game and the best you can do for yourself is study remotely using something like Brilliant and hope to start your own business. However this route is not much better than the previous, it is hard to start a business that has profit in a monopolistic economy like the United States. Even if you do become successful and become a threat to market dominance of exiting companies, well they will first try to buy you, if you refuse they will use some legal loop hole and their army of lawyers to take you out of business. Microsoft and other companies have done this many times by now. It is a rigged game to play and you either work yourself to the point of passing out and live mediocre(even slightly poor), you become very extremely lucky like Elon did, or you do not play. Hope this finds you well, my suggestion and the only thing you really can do as a young person is to either become a content creator, have an ebay business, do investing, or if you want to be a skilled worker with a college degree you can come here to this university and then leave the country. You will find better, more high paying jobs, and a better college education in countries where simple railroad bridges don't cost 126 billion dollars to construct. Lol
FYI: if you think 500 level 400 level classes is where the meat is at, no, it is not. I used to think this way too until I started to take them. The material is interesting but the pace in some of those classes is so fast that you will just have to survive in terms of your grade by any means possible. This applies to you too if you are really smart and have gotten straight A's all your life. Social skills are very important here, you have to be hyper sensitive to details in instructions and be able to read through the lines very well if you want any chances of success. This is what University is really about. "The goal is to make you more mature as an adult", well this is not entirely true and can actually have the opposite effect if you struggle socially. Bachelors is manageable but depending on the classes you take, this school can be harder(require more time and energy) than MEHMAT (the top mathematical university that existed in the USSR, literally the world's best). However, MEHMAT was a little bit more focused and was planned out much better. The assignments and timings were a lot more reasonable and the whole thing was totally different, but the point is that it was a ton more effective than...
Read moreSUN DEVIL DINING IS TERRIBLE. Employees are often rude and unprofessional when greeted at POS stations, they will often not respond to "how are you?" and will often just blankly stare at you. While all Barrett Honors Dining Hall Aramark employees are professional acting and fluent English speakers, whereas other dining halls this is not the case for the employees? The language barrier is a health and safety concern as allergens cannot be properly conveyed when requested. Employees working at food stations tend to stand in back of station, acting busy and avoiding eye contact with guests, to avoid having to retrieve their food. This is especially prominent at the grill stations. They act as though they are immune from any employer discipline for wrongdoing. Employees scuff when asked for an entre at a food station. Often will not say anything after being told "thank you" and will toss plate at you under sneeze guard while staring at you. Guests often do not of options at food stations such as tomatoes or lettuce on hamburgers, because they are not clearly displayed on glass and employees often close lids to obstruct view of those items. Employees are often not in correct uniforms, sometimes wearing MLB caps. I have seen POD workers, and other Aramark employees not wearing identifying name badges. I witnessed a POD employee drop a sleeve of unwrapped ICEE cups on ground and then proceed to refill the cup dispenser with those contaminated cups. I have received dirty, coated beverage cups from the "clean" cup racks, this is a health and safety concern and is often a warning sign that dishes are not being properly sanitized. The soda fountains do not have ice machines for some reason and on a daily bias run out of ice, and sometime are just completely out of operation. Nearly every day I need to select my third or fourth choice of drink simply because only water comes out, meaning the BIB (bag in box) needs to be changed. There are often no utensils necessary to eat a meal available to guests, they are only put out in limited batches and I have been dining where there wasn't a single one for in the entire dining establishment. There are no utensils at grill station. Menus posted to sneeze guards often contain unavailable or had never been available items. Sun Devil Dining and Aramark seem to cater to the "vegan" crowd, while removing food options for other guests, most likely because transitioning to this type of food is cheaper than serving traditional food, but at the same costs to all guests? The single limited condiment station is out of sauces on an hourly basis, I once notified an employee there was no condiments to which she assured me "Yes, yes, I get someone". After waiting for 10 minutes no employee had come to correct the issue. Employees often seem to be sent on break during key operational periods (lunch/dinner "rush") and will be seen lounging around on cell phones while stations will often form extremely long lines. Consistently there are several employees on "cleaning duty" simply wiping down tables when long lines at food stations, but somehow the dining hall is consistently in unclean condition. Guests often complete the surveys asking what they would like to see improved but Sun Devil Dining / Aramark have not acted on a single one of these suggestions. Overall, the dining experience with Sun Devil Dining / Aramark has been the worst ever seen on any university or institution campus, and it seems to stem from the employee/company culture of "we have your money, what are you going to do about it?" Immediate change is needed or will result in sharing of these findings to prospective students, and if deemed necessary local and state health and safety organizations. DEMAND CHANGE FROM ASU. Read moreI can't recommend this school to anyone who has other options. Their services are subpar for the money. They screwed up my financial aid last semester because they forgot to put a hold on my account for a mistake I made on my FAFSA. I started classes without knowing that anything was wrong. A couple weeks go by and I notice that my financial aid hasn't came through yet.
I went to student services and they said that there was a problem with my FAFSA form and that I needed to contact the FAFSA directly. I called them and they said that the problem is with ASU and that i needed to contact them. This back and forth went on for awhile with no one being able to tell me what was wrong.
Finally, I went back to ASU and talked to someone different who told me that ASU never put the hold on so that's why it never came through. It was then that they informed me that I would be paying out-of-state tuition because of the discrepancy on my FAFSA even though by every standard I was an AZ resident. I had one day left to gather all the documents I needed to appeal my case.
Because I had no way of paying my outstanding balance they put me on their payment plan which billed me in two installments of roughly $6500.
I lived in fear the entire semester and spoke with anyone who would listen (including the dean) to see if anyone could help me. No one could expedite my appeal.
Finally at the end of the semester my appeal was approved and my financial aid came through. Despite all this I still pulled off a 3.67 GPA.
I thought my troubles were behind me and I could finally just focus on my education, but as it turns out most of the classes at West campus (my home campus) had alread filled up for the following semester so I had to take on classes at Tempe. Every day of the week I travel between West and Tempe.
The second day on Tempe campus I forgot my wallet, after driving about 50 minutes, so I couldn't go back and get it. I got fined $100 for failure to pay my fee because, if I'm being honest, I got three or four parking citations the previous semester; but with my part-time job and a little help from my dad I paid off all my fines. I tried to appeal my case but was denied.
The very next day I had only one class in Tempe and I made sure I had my money and I paid for one hour of parking at 7:20am. After my class I went to the bathroom without thinking and walked back to my car.
When I got there, a meter-maid had just finished booting my car and was writing me a citation. I explained that I had paid but he said I didn't. I showed him the proof and he told me I still had to call parking and pay my balance immediately to have the boots removed. My next class was in a little over an hour all the way back at West. I called and tried to dispute the citation but I was denied because the citation was written at 8:35am. I was 15 minutes late getting back to my car.
So what I should've done was pay for 2 hours instead of one because I needed an extra 15 minutes that I didn't even know I needed. I was going to buy a parking permit that same day but now I can't afford it.
They don't work with their students at ASU. The teachers are fine but all other services are terrible based on my experience. This has been a nightmare. I've never experienced such poor service in my...
