I’m not sure where the 4.4 stars are coming from .. maybe I ordered the wrong thing? This was not good at all and usually I will try a few things before leaving a review but this was bad! Not tasty at all
My favorite Thai restaurant is now under new management and they’ve changed the menu drastically so I’m on a journey to find my new favorite Thai restaurant in Tempe and Thai basil is a hard pass.
I’ll start with the positive. The food was ready pretty quickly, if that’s your thing this place is for you. But if you actually like for your food to taste good.. read on.
I ordered the drunken noodle with medium spice meaning a little kick but not too much. and this dish came with no spice no flavor at all! I mean these noodles are blander than standing in line at the DMV, blander than sitting in traffic in 106 degree weather (with no A/C) blander than waiting for AOL dial up connection. You get the point.
The only flavor I got was that of a dirty wok/pan. An overworked burned wok. Yuck.
The chicken was tough and hard to chew.
The dish smelled nothing like drunken noodle or Thai food for that matter no scent of Thai basil whatsoever .. now that I think of it it smelled like the hint of burnt I tasted.
They also cram all the noodles into cancer containers that create condensation and waters your food down even more, as if it wasn’t bland enough.
They are also pricier than other Thai restaurants in the area.
That being said.. on to the next! my quest to find a new Thai spot to call home continues ..wish me luck and stay tuned!
Side note I went and picked up noodles from another Thai restaurant because I was not eating this and I’ve included a side by side to show the lack of...
Read moreThai Basil... the most tragic fall from grace anyone could have seen. At one point in time I would've given them 5 stars. Now I wish I could go lower than 1 star. What use to be a favorite place for me and my fiancee has turned into garbage food personified. The Thai Basil dish that my fiancee orders is very reliant on the rice that is supposed to come with the food. However if I order her food 10 times the rice will only be with the food once. The other nine times they will forget to give you rice. They will give you 3 carrot slices when you ask for extra and give you extra broccoli if you say no broccoli. Then if you order my dish of Spicy Noodles as hot as they come with pork as the protein and to add mushrooms... you will get undercooked chicken, rotten peppers, cold mushrooms and very few of them, and the whole dish will have the spiciness and flavor of tap water. Frankly I feel like after all the chances I've given this place I deserve a medal. The best food I've gotten from them in the past year is still only worthy of a 1 star and even that is pushing it. I would rather be stuck in a boxing ring with a prime Mike Tyson for one hour than ever let Thai Basil lead an assault on my taste buds that does more damage than any military invasion ever could. Do yourself a favor and go to Smile Thai Cuisine. I'm not sponsored but they have immeasurably more flavor and they dont forget the main part...
Read moreThe food at this place was pretty bad. Not sure how it has such high ratings on Google. Be warned: pics of the food look amazing, but this is a lie. My own pics of the food look much better than they actually taste, and I won't post those pics since I don't want to lead other people astray. The food was simply no bueno. Ordered the Pad See Ew (with beef) and Spicy Eggplant (with chicken). For the Pad See Ew, the noodles were bland, and the beef was tough and somewhat gamey (had an odd aftertaste). For the Spicy Eggplant, the chicken was waaaaay overcooked and very tough, not quite as tough as chicken jerky but almost there. The eggplant and veggies were actually good, but the sauce tasted funky, like the wok they used had accumulated a bunch of random flavors from other dishes, and the random assortment of residual flavors all blended together in a bad way. The sauce just didn't taste "clean" (I know this is vague but it's the best description I can come up with). The accompanying rice was tough, dry, and overcooked (seems to be a recurring theme). I also asked for Level 5 spice (their highest), but the actual spice turned out to be disappointingly mild, barely even a hint of heat. I enjoy Thai food in general, but I'm gonna skip this place from now on. Service was great here, but the...
