Usually, the customer service is pretty good and everything goes smoothly. I really enjoy this tea shop! It’s really a cozy environment and the staff are kind. However my recent visit was fairly surprising. I went and ordered, just one drink, sat down, 3-4 orders go by in a fifteen minute period and mine hasn’t been called out yet. I assumed they forgot about it and I kindly reminded them about my drink and they made it within two minutes! I’m not really upset about them forgetting my drink, I used to work at a boba shop so I can understand it, but if you notice a customer that’s been hanging around a little more without any of your product than the rest of your customers, I’d figure people would take notice and ask if they’re waiting on something. Again, this part isn’t the part that made me upset. The part that did was the cashier(a pale, blue eyed blonde) took a lady’s order, the lady asked for a milk alternative and she did get that, she then asked if they had any cheese foam and which the cashier responded they didn’t. Everything went smoothly you know, no harm done! Until the cashier went to the back and loudly started making fun about this lady in the back to her coworkers and they all laughed about her. I don’t think this lady really noticed, but other customers and I definitely noticed. I get it you know, customers can be silly and annoying at times, but if you’re going to talk about them loudly in the back where they can audibly hear you word for word, you might as well say it to their face. I’d suggest for the next time that the staff talk quieter if the customer is still in the shop or wait...
Read moreFirst time here, and forgot to ask for less-sweet. I wanted to compare Urban's 30% sweetness to that of Boba Tree's. Will have to return to carry out this experiment.
Took awhile to decide, but I settled with Iced Guava green tea. I asked if the guava is a puree or syrup, and the cashier guessed it to be the former since he remembers stuff "floating." He confirmed that the guava didn't contain corn syrup or -starch, and I wanted to try both lychee and grass jellies. Was able to order these half/half at the 50 cent price of one topping- hooray! :)
I enjoyed the chewy texture of the lychee jelly, which tasted like the "coconut jelly" offered at Boba Tree. I also liked the slippery texture and herbal flavor of the grass jelly, although there was one instance it tasted mossy. Not sure yet if I liked that. Since I enjoyed the lychee jelly more, I'd sooner choose it again, or try the other jelly options (so many, plus there are popping boba, too!) before re-selecting the grass. There are also regular and clear boba selections, but the only times I like (brown-hued) boba are in "taho" and "sago at gulaman." Google these terms, search to experience them, and many of you will be happy you did!
Although a few of my friends who are boba enthusiasts have told me they aren't crazy about Urban, I'm willing to try a few more before deciding yay, or nay. I would like to try some of their Fall favorites... Do you have any, and which would you recommend?
Oh, and I did enjoy the iced guava green tea, but it was too sweet, so I'm going to ask for less-sweet when ordering...
Read moreI don't know how I haven't reviewed this place yet. I went on a mission to try as much boba as I could and this place won for most consistent and the best cooked boba hands down. We started to go so much I think the staff started to recognize us.
They use powders but they use them so well. Also their teas don't and are absolutely delicious. The boba is always cooked well no matter what time I come in.
They are a small place but it's also Tempe so it's nothing new. The parking to get in is abundent and is around a lot of good food.
I've tried almost everything on the menue at this point and it's all very good.
They do offer milk alternatives so that's great for someone who loves blended taro but often can't risk it.
This is hands down my go to place for boba and will be forever. Highly recommend you check them out! They also will sometimes play kpop and it's fun to walk in to some old jams and enjoy some boba with...
