Pho Quyen — Restaurant in Temple Terrace

Ordered the beef stew, beef combination the shrimp roll(it was a wrap of sorts). Firstly, the staff was very attentive. Everything came out very quick, which I was happy about. The shrimp roll was a nice, light appetizer. By itself, it has good flavor but nothing to be wowed about. However they included a dipping sauce, that has peanuts, that elevated the dish greatly. The soups themselves came out shortly after the roll and let me tell you this is some of the best bang for your buck you can get out there. The portion of the soup could easily be split into 3-4 meals. The beef combinations broth tasted like a pork broth with miso and some other underlying earthy tones. Very delicious and would recommend to people who aren't as adventurous when trying food they're not accustomed to. However, warning!!! The beef combination does include tripe and other fatty, gelatinous pieces of meat that were off putting, solely off personal opinion. The texture can be off putting for people who don't normally consume these cuts of meat. The beef stew was a little more exotic in flavor. To me, it seemed like the broth has a mild fish stock undertone, with a really delicious tang that accompanies the flavor. There are pieces of meat, kind of the type you'd find in a beef stew, that are exploding in flavor because of how it has been marinated. Unfortunately, some gelatinous pieces of meat in the beef stew as well. They were not spoiled or anything, just a matter of personal preference. I can't speak for their food because I didn't get to eat any. Their service sucked however. I walked in to place a to go order after seeing them across from the Winn Dixie I just came out of. There was a party of two that was there before me who waited a while before they were seated. Once they finally were seated, this left me and only me standing...waiting at the counter for someone to place my order. 4 workers/servers walked back and forth past me and never acknowledged me at all. At this point I purposely waited another 5 minutes just for kicks and giggles to see how long it would take someone to acknowledge me. Needless to say the same workers walked back and forth and never said one word to me. Not a hold on, not a be right with you, not a are you waiting for your party. Nothing. It was a rainy and chilly day today and I just wanted some Pho, so granted I wasn't dressed up. Just shorts, a screen print t-shirt from my job, and a neatly wrapped head scarf. Not sure if this was the reason for ignoring me but I had my purse and even pulled out my credit card as a show of "Hey...I'm paying it!" It hit a bad chord for me so I just walked out finally. I took my dollars across the street to Saigon Bay where I was greeted immediately and purchased a wonderful Chicken Pho. This is a nice restaurant, but I don't know if they have a specific preference on who comes in and dine in and eat. I say this because I took my youngest daughter out for lunch and a dish that she ordered she did not like. I let the server know that she would like to try something else and he gave me a really hard time. He also informed me that he would have to call and speak to his manager to see was it okay for me not to take or accept that food and get something else. Maybe it made me feel uncomfortable about arguing and going back and forth about the dish even though I tried to still just enjoy the time at the restaurant with my daughter but I really just thought that was very strange because I had never dealt with that before. But as I'm sitting next to another party I noticed someone else had the same issue because I'm next to them I can hear he gave her absolutely no problem so I don't know if they just have preference for this restaurant of who they serve or give great customer service to but overall the restaurant was clean the atmosphere was okay but the customer service for me and my experience with my youngest daughter sucked so I definitely will not be coming back to this restaurant again but I'm sure depending on I don't know if it's height background ethnicity someone else may enjoy...
