I recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at Stables Restaurant in Terre Haute, IN, and I must say it was an absolute disappointment from start to finish. The poor service, management, and hosting left a sour taste in my mouth, and I feel compelled to share my experience to warn others.
First and foremost, the service was abysmal. The waitstaff seemed disinterested and inattentive throughout the entire meal. It took an eternity to get our orders taken, and even longer for our food to arrive. When it finally did, it was lukewarm and clearly rushed. Our server rarely checked on us, and it was a challenge to flag them down for even the most basic requests.
The lack of proper management was evident throughout the entire establishment. The restaurant appeared disorganized and chaotic. Empty tables were left uncleared, leading to an overall untidy atmosphere. It was clear that there was a lack of leadership and oversight, which reflected in the subpar dining experience.
Furthermore, the hosting was nothing short of a disaster. We arrived with a reservation but were kept waiting at the entrance for an unreasonable amount of time. The host seemed overwhelmed and unprepared, resulting in a chaotic seating process. It was evident that they were understaffed and unable to handle the flow of guests efficiently. Our evening started off on the wrong foot due to this mismanagement.
Overall, I cannot recommend Stables Restaurant based on my experience. The poor service, lack of management, and chaotic hosting all contributed to a deeply unsatisfactory dining experience. Save yourself the frustration and disappointment by considering other dining options in Terre Haute, IN. Stables Restaurant has a long way to go in improving their overall operations.
Note: I sincerely hope that Stables Restaurant takes this feedback constructively and works towards improving their service, management, and hosting to provide a better dining experience for their patrons...
Read moreAtmosphere: The dining hall is too dark, yet the table my dining partner and I were seated at had a harsh glare from a wall sconce bulb that annoyed us worse than the blaring train horns from several passing locomotives during our stay. Speaking of loud, I found the music volume a bit much. The area around our table was dirty and dusty. Service: The hostess was pleasant. Our server was nice, but seemed inexperienced, yet competent enough. One runner was fine, while the other appeared angry and was off putting. We waited too long for a couple of food items, acknowledged by the staff in the form of receiving an unsolicited dessert. Drinks: The water was adequate. The Old Fashions were affordable (if rang up properly at $8.25/ea) and ok tasting, but a bit skimpy in size. Food: The menus are not descriptive enough. The lobster bites were cooked and presented ideally, but lacked flavor. The star of the night was the spinach salad, although I wish it didn't have bacon on it (again, they need better menus). My partner and I agree that the prime rib and strip were the worst steaks we've ever had; worse than Dennys and the local breakfast diner's $11 steak and eggs. The baked potatoes were fair, but bordering subpar, with the asparagus firmly below average. Despite the disappointing experience thus far, we decided to attempt their much lauded bread pudding for dessert. It was fine for the first two bites, but found it not agreeing with my stomach after the third. My partner didn't heed my suspicions and ate more, regretting it by the time we were walking to our vehicle.
My recommendation is to dine at J. Ford if you're wanting fine dining in Terre Haute, as we've never had a...
Read moreI've frequented this establishment since it opened, have attended business dinners as well as family/celebratory/date night dinners, have given many gift cards over the years and have never had such a lackluster experience. We made the reservation for 830 and about 45 min prior to the reservation we got a text that the table was ready. We had planned to visit family in the area but instead went straight to the restaurant and was seated. We waited and waited, more tables were sat and eventually ordered drinks and appetizers...then dinner. We waited still. Finally a waiter came to us to take drink orders. I ordered an iced tea. My bfs drink came and I waited. I kept looking for the waiter and didn't ever see him. I asked a runner if I could get my drink. The waiter came back about 10 minutes later to ask for our dinner order and I again asked about the tea. I got my salad and the soup I ⁷ordered....still no tea. Finally after stopping someone else again I got my drink. I then asked for a straw and that was a huge mistake.....it took another 10 minutes at least. The evening went on like this for the remainder of the meal. I was very disappointed in that as well. I have loved the Lobster bisque since the first time I ate it but the soup I got tasted like it was straight out of a bag. The creamed spinach was burnt and dry, I couldn't even eat it, and my steak was med well despite ordering med rare. It was such a disappointment that the experience was so unenjoyable, as I always looked to Stables to be a place to go for a wonderful dining experience. I hope my experience was the exception, however I can't say I'll go back any time soon...
