Just flew in then drove from Hobby and stopped by because it is one of the only place around Katy open after 10:00PM. We were the only guests in the whole restaurant. Our server was very nice and took our drink order. Cold brew coffee for me and chocolate milk for my guest. We were told the water was cross wired in the machine and was carbonated so they were not serving water. I was given 3 vanilla creamers for my coffee and after tasting it I requested to have another served black because it was off. The plain was no better, it tasted terrible, burned or worse. Opted for a sprite to replace. We ordered our meals, mine was the Split decision breakfast with an additional side of hash browns. Guest ordered big steak omelette and requested the hash browns served as a side instead of inside the omelette and New York Cheesecake Pancakes. Food came out and initially tasted ok for me until I got to the hash browns. They were very hard and chewy and did not taste fresh. The French toast was good, eggs cooked as I requested, the sausage links were good. I thought the bacon to be dry and hard to chew. Guest had the same experience with the dry chewy hash browns side but also had hash browns inside the omelette which was requested to be omitted. The omelette had a lot of mushrooms but not much steak. The strawberry cheesecake pancakes were supposed to have cheesecake chunks in them but did not. It was just a strawberry sauce topping. It has been a long time since I had been to an IHOP and was not use to seeing hash browns in square or rectangle form. Our server got the manager who came to the table to apologize and continued on with answers to some questions. He disclosed that the hash browns are always square now and blamed someone before his shift for their quality. That confirmed my suspicion that they were not fresh. He said he would remove the hash browns from the bill and would also remove the coffee. He had the kitchen make two orders of crispy breakfast potatoes. He claimed that the cold brew coffee comes in concentrate and maybe whoever mixed it earlier in the day did not properly get that ratios correct but he also stated he did not think it was a high quality product to begin with. Upon review of the bill, he had removed the cold brew coffee but left one of the hash brown charges. He applied a senior discount to the entire bill. The hash brown charge was $4.99 but the total senior discount was only $3.48 from the whole bill. I asked the server to see if he would correct the bill. The manager returned to the table and argued that he had done us a favor and did not agree with my request to just remove the hash brown charge as he had previously agreed to do. We paid the bill and took our remaining food to go. The wait for the food was not long but the quality was really poor, especially since we were the only guests. Maybe that should have been the warning. Our server was really sweet but I thought the manager was full of excuses. I do not think I will return to this location if I...
Read moreI have eaten at this location twice and now know I will not return. We went last May with a group for my daughter’s bday and were sorely disappointed with how the food came out. We chalked it up to there only being one cook and 2 waitresses in the whole place, and all of our drinks were comped as an apology.
Today I decided to give it another try, this time with only my kid. We walked in and the restaurant was half full. We were seated and given menus right away and then it was about 3-4 more minutes before anyone else stopped by. A few people stopped and kept telling us that someone would be right with us. Finally our waiter came to the table and apologized for the wait. He said that to make up for it he would comp our drinks, and encouraged us to order something special. We ordered chocolate milk and coffee. We weren’t ready to order so he got drinks and then we had to wait for a while before he came back to take our order. We overheard him telling a few other people that he was working 6 days a week to try to turn things around. Our food came and my daughter was pretty happy with her food. It came as expected and as ordered. I had the biscuits and gravy, and what I got looked more like English muffins. It was clearly toasted after it had been split. It did taste like biscuits, and the gravy was ok. But the side of gravy was minuscule, and only was enough for one of the halves of the “biscuit.” Later I requested additional gravy, and it was more than 5 minutes before it came out, which meant the biscuit was good and cold by that point. Then he brought the bill and said that the manager was in the back yelling at everyone in the kitchen and wouldn’t allow him to comp both drinks or the gravy. So we got charged for the chocolate milk and for the extra gravy that should have been on the dish to begin with as the amount was not enough.
By this point the waiter was sweating profusely as he had been running around the entire time we had been there. He blamed all the problems on the manager, and I believe it, because of the issues we had last May with the restaurant being short staffed. There are plenty of other breakfast places around, and we will definitely visit them rather than ever return to this location. We’ve been to the IHOP on Fry, and it was 100 times better than this location near Katy Ft Bend road.
While we were waiting for our gravy, we could see multiple parties waiting to be seated, despite there being empty tables. There was nobody there who could seat them in a timely manner because the few staff who were there were all busy with other tasks. Also, the salt and pepper shakers were filthy and I needed hand sanitizer after using them because they...
Read moreDO NOT go to this IHOP. This past Saturday we had the worst experience by far! This place is a complete hostile environment. On 8/24/24, a customer and employee were arguing to the point that the customer started screaming and the employee pulled his middle finger to the customer. It looked like the employee was getting ready to physically assault the customer so someone pulled him away and took him toward the back to the kitchen. Not too sure what the argument was about but after the employee showed the finger, the customer got more upset and yelled from the entrance of the restaurant that the employee called him the N WORD. After a while, the customer left, we never heard anyone talking to him or asking him to leave. We did not see any manager try to de-escalate the situation with the customer. Before all this, we were already having a not so good time. Service was horrible, took a long time to sit, get our food ( that was the wrong orders, cold and some items made it to the table when we were getting ready to leave). Check was wrong, asked for management to let her know how bad the service and food were and to fix out ticket. We had originally asked for military discount, that indeed was applied, but we were charged for waffles that the waitress said came with our meal. The manager did not want to take the waffles off because they had already applied the military discount. So that it was up to us if we wanted the waffles off OR the military discount. WTH?? And all this was after that scene we had just witnessed! This experience completely ruined my morning.
I gave this place 3 tries and never again.
To begin, there is no hostess, (all the 3 times I’ve been to this place there is no one at the front and all the employees walking around don’t even try to make eye contact with you), so expect to stand there until someone decides to come over to you. One of the 3 times we been there, we left because no one ever came). Service is nonexistent here, prior to sitting, after sitting, during AND after your meal, even to pay is a hassle. No one tries to make eye contact to avoid to have to attend to you. Managers are in disguise in here and are not leaders what so ever. The food orders are never correct and food is always room temp or cold. Items are brought to the table when customers are ready to leave. I like IHOP, but this location in Katy either needs to close down or hire better or true managers and all...
