My husband and I decided to enjoy a date night in the Dalles, and we chose Zim's Brau Haus because we've never been there before and we both love German food. The sign says it's a sports pub and indeed, right when we walked in we saw that we could view up to three different major league sports games at that time, all depending upon where we chose to be seated. A friendly waiter seated us and as we chatted he was incredibly helpful with our menu choices. Knowing that I have to avoid gluten and soy products, he went out of his way to check product labels in the kitchen and to consult with the chef to ensure my safety and comfort. When the food came, we were just as pleased with the taste and quality of that as we were the service. The cream cheese and steak soup which my husband enjoyed had him raving about its delights, and his schnitzel was yummy. My meal was lovely, a dish of shrimp scampi alongside the nicest grilled vegetables I believe I've ever been served at a restaurant before. My husband also had the veggies and we agreed they were outstanding. The only negative to our meal was that the schnitzel's coating was not staying on very well. I had sat down at a table where my back is to the wall. I was asked why Iām sitting at such a big table by myself. The waitress kinda had an attitude when she asked me to leave the table because others wanted that table. Anyways. Rude waitress or bartender.
My breakfast was good YES. I recommend the bacon and eggs meal. I do not recommend the Orange juice. It tasted like Bloody Mary. Kinda killed my mood for OJ.
EDIT::
I stopped bye for another visit. I tried 3 appetizers for dinner. 3/5 stars. -Mini burgers -onion rings -jalapeƱo poppers
mini burgers- I was told it would be more of a slider. I was expecting Chillies style sliders or any other restaurant that makes sliders. I was expecting (grilled onions, bacon bits, cheese, fresh grilled patty). Instead it was literally little classic cheese burgers. Little flavor and Very dry patty.
Onion rings- were actually very good. Exactly as I expected. Definitely hand battered.
JalapeƱo poppers- not what I was expecting. I know for a fact those are frozen made at a factory somewhere. Possibly the same place that makes JackInthebox jalapeƱo poppers. Exactly the same as Jack in the Box. I was kinda bummed for it not having bacon. Everyone knows JalapeƱo poppers have a bacon...

Comes w mixed veggies, garlic bread & your choice of soup or salad & potato. There is no reason to ever leave here hungry. Steaks are always perfectly cooked. If you aren't in the mood for a steak, their salads & sandwiches are great as well, it's all great. We have never had a bad meal here. They also serve breakfast. Service is fantastic. They are all so attentive and friendly. Owners are always on site and are amazing people. You can tell they poor a lot of love into making sure everyone is taken care of & is having a good time, including their staff. Every time we go anywhere else, we always say, "We should have gone to Zims" There isnt very many places that take care of their customers with the level of service that Rachel and her staff do.
