Best breakfast in the Dalles .well i take that back now as of december 2024 this morning went for breakfast cause a friend had never been there yet . my order was very very disaapointing . the cherizo hash first was served luke warm in the middle . had a pile of black beans that looked like from previous day or days left over in the middle , wasnt a pretty looking dish at all . i should have not gone any further and sent it back . i scraped off the black goo and proceeded to see if i was getting what i paid for and i found three chunks of chirezo about the size of a quarter . really dry couldnt find any trace of small pieces or even the flavor of chirezo in the rest of the hash browns and i think maybe an egg . wasnt much egg there . the taste was not good for the potatoes . had that taste like they sat out or in dirty old water. something just wasnt right . asked for more chirezo so at least i felt like i was getting something for my 17 dollars i was paying for just my dish after mixing it up and eating about half of it i just couldnt finish the rest . to cold and that potatoe flavor just got worse . im not going back again . except to get owners info . it was weird no matter when i go in there its always busy . only three tables seated and no one standing in line waiting even for a sunday morning .. another lost cause in the dalles .. wasnt even a new cook so they "knew " what their doing . i also like to say food is required to be served at a certain temperature and it wasnt at that temperature ! even with issues and quality still payed full price so they must be...
Read moreHaving just traveled to Paris it's probably not fair to review croissants from Portland OR but here we go. The location I visited (of which they have many) was in The Dalles in the Columbia Gorge. The restaurant atmosphere was good. It was clean and cozy. The wait staff was friendly and helpful. I purchased a butter croissant and was told they are made daily. It was noonish so not the freshest. I ordered a croissant and was charged for the pastry and jam (didn't actually ask for jam but .75$ want enough to argue). It's a large pastry and they warmed it in a microwave then served in a paperbag to go. It's layers are evident and very flaky. Very good mouth feel until the greasy coating and bitter after taste. I'm not sure if it has been sitting too long or the mix was wrong to cause the greasy-ness but for the $4.50 French pastry it was not stellar. Then again the slight bitter taste in the back of the throat would probably be masked if chased with a swig of coffee but I didn't have any at the time. Maybe the butter was a bit old in this batch- not sure. Overall if you're not picky and don't know any better then if you eat one fast with a side of coffee it's probably doable. Come to think of it maybe that's why they push the jam? In fairness I should try them again for a different batch and much earlier in the day before judging too harshly. And having just returned from France may...
Read moreI went in here for lunch. It was quit busy, and took a minute to get service. At first i was wondering if i should just go, but decided to stay. The waitress acknowledged me as she was walking by, letting me know she'll be right with me. I ordered the veggie croissant sandwich. They had the choice of potato salad, green salad, soup, or fruit with it. I asked if the soup was veggie and she said yes. i liked that they had a variety of selections to choose from .I was really impressed when the waitress came back and informed me no one knew if the soup had been made with beef or chicken stock, and asked if i wanted something else. I went with fruit. Some places wouldn't care to inform me, or even think to ask. When the food arrived it looked yummy, and it didn't disappoint. In addition to the sandwich i got a few chocolate moose cups to go and a few macaroons. The moose is very light in taste and a nice treat at the end of a meal. I want to try their bread next time. This is a somewhat small space, but the large mirror makes it appear more spacious inside. I would...
