We finally visited today after friends had recommended this library for a couple years. There’s a lot of neat activities, but it’s very loud with this thing running (see photo). It made it impossible to actually read to my kid, and she didn’t want to do any activities near it because it scared her. We’ll stick to the library in Hood River, this place was a bit of a sensory overload.

Absolutely the coolest little library. They have reading programs, story time, ongoing book sale, children's play area, and some beautiful pieces of art both inside and outside the library. As an "outsider" I felt this was a central place of learning for all ages for The Dalles area. They even have passes you can borrow so your entire family can visit local museums for free!

A man came to this library seeking nothing but a computer to program the software he'd been working on for over a decade. They kicked him out because of his appearance. He felt so shamed from the ordeal that he ended up killing himself on the nearby train tracks mere hours later. The man was a genius programmer who had a chemical imbalance in his brain. RIP Terry A. Davis.

The Dalles library is by far the LOUDEST library I have ever been in. Do not bother trying to study there. This library does not enforce any type of quite environment. Kids run around playing and screaming while adults are conversing loudly and laughing at full volume. When a librarian was asked about this situation, she said there was nothing she could do about it. Since when did the library become the new coffee shop chatting spot? It is the responsibility of the librarians to enforce a quiet environment, but good luck with that. And good luck trying to read or study without becoming completely frustrated due to constant loud laughter and children screaming. If you are wondering if this was just one experience, the answer is no. I have been here multiple times, each time being reminded why I should not have come in the first...

The Dalles library is the best! Tons of books, good selection of DVDs to rent (which is very convenient) and best if all is the kids area. Cute set up, we love to go weekly to play, check put some books and use the little computers. The ladies working are always so kind, especially the newest lady (sorry, i dont know her name). Each month they do little take home art projects for kids that are fun and something exciting to go get. Thank you to The...

This is a fantastic small-town library!! They have so many programs and activities for kids, teens, and even some activities for adults. The children's area is a lot like a children's museum with all the different exhibits. The staff is helpful and friendly. You can find just about anything you could want there, or if not AT the library, do an online hold and get it sent there from a neighboring one. It is certainly a great asset to...
