My girlfriend and I live 15 minutes from this margarita factory, and we were SO excited for it to open. There aren't many great places to hang out in Tigard, so we were amped to have a margarita factory In town, which we could turn into a regular date night spot. The first two times we went were decent. A server named Angel took care of us and did a fantastic job. The third visit (last night) was a total bust.
Yesterday was the evening my girlfriend and I decided to do Christmas because we're both going out of town this year. We wanted to start our Christmas evening with a margarita to warm up for the occasion. We drove to the margarita factory and were greeted with hospitable faces. I asked to sit at the bar, and the host graciously moved us there. The bartender, Diego, asked to see our ID's. After glancing at our IDs, he said he'd need to run them over to his manager. A few minutes passed, and the manager came over and told us she wouldn't accept them. I get it; they are both vertical IDs from out of state. On our way out, the manager said, "We hope to see you soon!" She definitely thought our IDs were fake and that we wouldn't return.
Embarrassed, my girlfriend and I left the building, drove 15 minutes home to retrieve our passports, and 15 minutes back to the restaurant.
When we returned, we sat at the bar in the same seats. A different bartender came over and checked over our passports. Finally, after one hour+ we got the margaritas we had desperately longed for. Now don't get me wrong, the margs are decent. However, the restaurant doesn't post pricing for any of their margaritas. Which, to me, is a very shady way to pick up some extra cash.
This experience upset me because neither Diego nor the manager came over to apologize. Neither of them said a single word to us when we returned. As someone in the hospitality industry-- the correct thing to do would have been to at least come over and say, "Sorry that you had to drive home and grab your passports. Hopefully, you can understand it is just policy."
The rest of our evening felt like none of the staff wanted us there. The warm hospitality we had previously experienced at the Margarita factory was gone. I understand making a mistake, but please confront the awkward scenario so that your paying guests don't feel bad. It ruined our little Christmas celebration for the evening.
Every other guest that left the building disembarked with a "Thanks for coming!" or a "See you soon!"
No one said a single word to us on the way out, even though plenty of staff members were at the front of the building. Instead of a friendly goodbye, the staff glared at us, waiting for us to leave. The whole experience was very uncomfortable.
To Margarita factory- There was an excellent opportunity to make amends despite the initial confrontation of denying our IDs. It didn't happen. Instead, we got the cold shoulder after you wasted our time. I paid $20 for a decent margarita and a ruined evening. Rather than make us regulars, you made us never want to come back.
To the public- The food here is okay, but I recommend dining elsewhere beforehand. If you are coming here, only go for the drinks, and be sure to ask your server the price of your beverage before you order it. If you are in your twenties, bring an extra form of ID or go to any other bar in the city. It could save you an hour of wasted time and an...
Read moreMy boyfriend and I planned a nice evening out at this swanky Mexican restaurant, we got all dressed up and arrived to only a 5 minute wait at 6:30pm, then we were seated at a booth.
The restaurant was beautiful and they had upbeat music playing. So far, so good. Our waiter came, and his thick accent made him very difficult to understand. He offered queso or guacamole for the chips and salsa and we ordered cocktails, which were about $20 each. The queso was $13.
We perused the menu and took a while to decide what we wanted, all the while feeling rushed to make all of our ordering choices by the waiter.
The drinks arrived promptly, and they were very good.
We both ordered the cast iron burrito, mine was with carnitas and my BF's was shredded chicken. A different employee came out and tried to offer food to the ladies one table from us, whom had already eaten and said it wasn't theirs. Then the man brought the food to us, and it was not the cast iron burrito, but some completely different burrito that was smothered in cheese and sauce. We told him we ordered cast iron burritos, and he left with the food. Then our waiter came out and asked "did you change your mind on the Big Boy burrito?" We explained we had ordered cast iron ones, and then he told us the Big Boy was better, and basically just tried to get us to eat those. We insisted we wanted the Cast Iron ones instead.
About 5 minutes later a manager brought our food out, the correct burritos, and asked if we needed anything else. I asked for more chips and salsa, as we had a ton of queso left. We were brought chips by the random food runner, but no salsa, so I asked him for some. He seemed to understand, but he also barely spoke English, and we never got the salsa.
The burritos were good, they were served in a little cast iron skillet, topped with fajita veggies. We were surprised the burritos were not crispy at all, despite being called, and served on, a cast iron.
The waiter comes and asks if everything tastes good, we nod. He walks away. My BF finishes his food and the waiter comes back and asks if he wants another drink, he declines and the waiter goes "Really?!" At $20+ a drink, I'm surprised he was so shocked. But also, the waiter just felt plain rude at this point.
We finished, received the bill ($101 before tip), paid in cash so we could just leave. As we were walking away the waiter approaches us and acts like we're trying to eat and run, and we tell him the cash is on the table.
Overall, this restaurant has good food, drinks, and atmosphere. However, the service feels lacking for the type of restaurant it is, and the prices are outrageous. They do have some unique sounding cocktails, but I'm not even sure this is a place to go for drinks since it's so expensive. A different Mexican restaurant suits me better at average prices, with just as good...
Read moreI'll start with the positive: the food and drinks are good and have great flavor. You will never leave hungry. Sadly, the service has been lacking on our last two visits. Tonight we had a reservation for a birthday celebration. The hostess sat three groups who came in after us who all had later reservations before finally seating us. She finally put us in the corner of the back room. I listed the birthday celebration on our reservation, reminded the hostess, then again reminded our waiter when we were done eating dinner and it was obvious they had forgotten. He reassured me that they had not forgotten. Then our waiter just disappeared and we were left waiting with no offer for ordering desert and no singing even though they sang and celebrated with multiple other tables nearby. Good thing we didn't need drink refills since that wasn't offered either. After a really long time of sitting there waiting, a waitress finally offered us a box and the check. No clue where our original waiter went. He never came back. Additionally, there is a hidden metal foot rest at that tall bench seat in the back room by the windows. We all hit it when we were sitting down because you can't see it. It's an alarming wack to the ankle, so be careful. While the manager did visit our table and gave a gift card (it was for 20% of our total, which happens to be the same as our tip for the disappearing waiter), I really wish we could just come here and get the same service as the other customers. We aren't problematic customers, we aren't a large group, and we don't ask for much. I don't know why we've had bad luck here with the service twice. I definitely wouldn't come here if you have a tight timeframe requirement. Dinner took...
