West Coast Torta Company — Restaurant in Tigard

I started visiting West Coast Torta Company at the tail end of their residency at Universal Plaza. I was bummed when it ended but excited to find out they were reopening nearby.

My two go-tos are the Milanesa and asada tortas. Their asada is very savory, and the Milanesa holds its own, even in a city known for its fried chicken sandwiches. I also recently enjoyed the brisket torta special; the one I had on Friday was off the chain. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for the return of the birria and puerco ahumado tortas.

Don’t skip the sides! Their tortilla chips are delicious and perfect for sharing or as a side with your torta. The salsa verde is packed with flavor, and so is the salsa roja (though it's too spicy for me!).

Joshua and Alfredo put a tremendous amount of care and intentionality into their craft. They keep a limited menu and focus on quality over quantity. Beyond that, West Coast Torta Company is a huge cheerleader for the other carts in their pod and patrons of local businesses. Instead of making some online order to a chain restaurant that will most likely serve me some Lukewarm bland meal. I choose to come to downtown Tigard where some true locals are slinging arguably the best Tortas your money can buy. I’ve eaten here on three separate occasions and every torta has had something special about them to the point where my mission is to try everyone on the menu. The flavors of the carne asada alone deserves a key to the city, the Milanesa is surprisingly light and hitting all the right notes, making it a supreme contender for the fried chicken wars. The birria queso was a little to heavy for my taste but supplied me with enough protein I was able to lift a Honda civic with one arm. The chips and salsa with every order is just a little cherry on top as well. I’d recommend the pico because it is so cool and fresh it could lower a fever.
