EDIT (August 2025): Until about 6 months ago, Cracker Barrel used to be my favorite restaurant. Came here for three reasons:
In the past 6 months I noticed a decline in both the meal quality, and especially the portion size. When they first introduced their daily specials, like ribs, etc., I welcomed it because it was still delicious home-cooked meal, and they had good portions. They introduced more later on, so I tried a few of them, and to my disappointment, they all cut down on portions. So much so that I had to order a second meal! Also, they stopped giving out the breakfast menu when they seated us, and instead you have to ask for it. And the sides that come with the breakfast is severely cut with only a couple of options. And even if a handful of breakfast items are also in their lunch/dinner menu, you still do not have the all the options listed in their lunch/dinner menu for sides, which is ridilicous. The quality of the steak, has browns, and some vegetables, has gone to garbage. I've tried it several times thinking "may it'll be better this time" because I love(d) the restaurant so much that I gave it plenty of chances. We even tried their location in Viera, and that's not good either, i.e., poor quality meals and smaller portions. After about two months of actively avoiding to visit this location (not easy when this, i.e., any Cracker Barrel, used to be my favorite restaurant for almost a decade), yesterday, we decided to visit once again. Among the same problems listed above, we had hair on both of drinking glasses, and that's a no! I understand needing to introduce new menu to cater to a new crowd or generation, etc., But the thing that made you an exception and special among the rest, and why folks like me and several seniors come to you, is the three reasons I listed above. I understand if the price of the meal goes up, because the economy is different now. But do not skip on quality and portion size! I hope they keep the ambiance, otherwise that'll be strike three. I'm saddened to say that we probably won't be going to any Cracker Barrel because of the above reasons. I guess all good things must come to an end. We had a good run for almost a decade. Like almost every other Cracker Barrel I've been to across the country, this one is good, too. Hard to find that consistency in most food chains. Although breakfast food is my favorite, I'm glad they recently introduced daily specials because their ribs are amazing! Been visiting it for...
Read moreGreat food and great service. Never had a problem there of any type. Until last night (Jan 23).
There have been so many changes, as restaurants have the right to do, including pricing, but lately, it seems to be changing in the wrong direction. A lot of favorites are now gone (like the original cracker barrel sampler, the contents are now different and the price has gone up) and in its place are what some people call, mid-western cuisine instead of what started it: good old fashion country dining (which is NOT midwestern). The good breading on the chicken fried chicken also changed for the worst (which is what my companion ordered last night).
Time before last night's visit, I got food poisoning immediately after leaving, and last night my companion had it as well.
The portion size seems to have gotten smaller and the prices higher. Like the Buffalo chicken Mac and cheese serving portion was a joke. Wasn't spicy at all and had only 2 tenders whereas the image showed 3 or 4. It wasn't that good at all, to quote my companion: "it was a huge disappointment and I will not get it again."
They originally ordered okra but when it came, it was ACTUALLY stale. Not crispy or even warm. Changed it to broccoli and then didn't even get it! So I gave them mine. At least the broccoli was actually warm, somewhat....
My meal last night was actually cold cold when I got to the last piece of chicken. Normally when people say it's cold, it's actually room temp at best, no, this was actually cold cold, no joke. And we were not even there that long like how normally the food will get cold if you're shooting the breeze for more than an hour and a half or so, but no, it was legit COLD or at least on its way to being cold (once we got our food).
The wait time for the food was actually LONGER than the time it took to eat it. They were not even that busy (sort of, like they were not weekend busy).
The service is still excellent as well as the atmosphere, which is why they're still getting 5 stars, as well as the overall rating. The food however, seems to have dropped below the original standard it used to be. A ghost of its former self.
Simply put, if you like smaller portions, not even lukewarm food at best, higher pricing and mid-western style food, this is still the place for you. Normally I hate leaving negative reviews, which is why the 5 stars is where it is (only service and atmosphere), and normally I'll try to be as positive with my reviews, but this time, I'm sorry cracker barrel, but its a 2 star overall for you. I fear we will NOT be back anytime soon. Waste...
Read moreI love eating at Cracker Barrel because of the variety and quality of food, even though it is usually pretty noisy...which sound barriers would help resolve that issue. I rarely have any issues eating at Cracker Barrel, and I have made many positives comments in the past. However, when I last ate at the Titusville, FL location, I ordered the vegetable plate, as I have done so many times, but ALL my food was cold...green beans, mac and cheese, and okra...and any time okra gets cold, the coating and "skin" gets really tough. Mine was unedible...so I didn't eat it. When ordering it, I had asked the waitress for Ranch dressing to dip my okra into, however, none came when my meal was delivered. So I asked her for the Ranch dressing at that time...my waitress was the one who delivered my food. She never brought me any. I went ahead and ate the cold mac and cheese and the green beans as I didn't want to wait for another order. At one time, the waitress came by to ask about refills on our drinks, and, again, I asked her for Ranch dressing, even though my okra was stone cold by then and I had no intention of trying to eat it. We waited so long for our bill, that I had to flag her down. I never received my Ranch dressing...and I forgot to mention that the cornbread was served before my meal, and it was also cold...not even warm. It was in the afternoon and was NOT busy, and she had only a few tables to take care of. Please understand that I will continue to eat at Cracker Barrel as I realize this was an exception to the rule, but you asked for a review, and I...
