Ordered for the first time 2 grouper meals. I love grouper. I also ordered 5 wings.
The wings were not wings they were wing dings. So I was expecting 5 whole wings for 1.00 each. They seemed to be frozen/prepared wings and then fried. But I'm not sure. That's not what i was expecting. They weren't all bad but I didn't eat them.
The fries were nice but not a drop of salt or seasoning. A light sprinkle would have made them a 5.
The spaghetti wasn't dry plenty saucy and plenty of meat. You can tell they put a bit of sugar in it....but it had a weird taste like the sauce was from a can. And could have used a pinch more salt and perhaps some seasoning. Just needed a tiny bit of help....that's why a 3.
OK and now for the fish. It was Nicely coated and fried perfectly, very large flaky and moist filets.....but was a tad bit too salty. I'm not a condiment person but I do like to put a little hot sauce on my fish.....but I didn't add alot because it would have really been too salty.
I wanted cake but at 5.00 a slice I felt that was too much so I skipped it. At 3.50 I might have bought 2.
Coleslaw? It was really good.
I only left a review because I have been in the food business all my life. And maybe the owner will see this and make a couple of small tweeks...maybe or maybe not. I wish them much success.
Will I go there again ?.....yes but I will ask for my fries to be lightly salted for sure.
Oh there was a place to eat inside....but I'm guessing the air was broke or there is none....it was hot in there.
Staff was nice...
Read moreI've been wanting to try this place ever since it opened, but our schedules would never match up until today. When I arrived there were 2 guys waiting for their orders and the waitress and cook. I asked a few questions and then decided on the fried catfish dinner with fries and spaghetti and a Faygo red pop. As soon as I sat down, 2 ladies came in and ordered follow by several guys on lunch followed by another lady and then a couple more guys. My food came out fresh and hot. Contrary to a few reviews I read, the fish was seasoned and fried perfectly. When I was ordering, the waitress asked if I wanted salt/pepper because the cook doesn't use those. I didn't need to add anything to the fish but definitely needed salt for the fries. I tasted the spaghetti and it is some of the best that I've had in a while. I enjoyed my dinner so much that I ordered a walleye dinner with 2 sides of spaghetti and peach cobbler to bring home with me so that I wouldn't have to cook all weekend, just reheat things. I will definitely plan my appointments so that I can stop in again for another meal. I told the waitress that they should have a fish sampler because that's really all I wanted was fish and more fish. Today's choices were catfish, walleye, perch, grouper...
Read moreMy wife and I went on a road trip today and stopped at Berta Mae's for dinner. The reviews we had seen was good for the most part so here we go.
I had the walleye dinner with fries the spaghetti and bread. Walleye (1 large piece) was seasoned well, fried great for my likings (like mine a little more done then some). The fries were good and the spaghetti was amazing. The bread was just that just bread not toasted or grilled. When we got there they let us know there was a fryer out and they couldn't make wings or hushpuppies. (would have got the hushpuppies). My wife had Purch and fries. I tried her fish and it was even better then the walleye and got 4 pieces of fish, that was great but way more then what she or I would be able to eat by are selfs. Soda was by the can, water was by the bottle. Did get the turtle cheesecake to go but have not had it yet. Service was great, very friendly and courteous. Building and atmosphere was dated and could use an update. And the dinning area is small could only seat about 16 people. Parking employees where parked in front of the small building and almost missed it (should park on the side to make it easier to see) Overall quite happy. Would go back and would like to try other things...
