RubyCats Cat Cafe — Local services in Toledo

So excited that Toledo finally has a cat cafe! It's a cute, clean, cozy space to hang out with kitties downtown while you eat your lunch or have a coffee, or maybe even just do some work or homework. Though they do have some cupcakes available for purchase (for the humans), I like that you can bring in your own food and drinks. Since they are very new (writing this review within the week they opened), they don't have beverages yet, though I am told they are considering having basic coffee and/or tea at some point (don't take that as written in stone). However, Grindhrs is right across the street, Adams Street Cafe is a few doors down, and Jennifer Snack is on the block, if you want to purchase something before going in.

Love that they have kitty treats available for cheap if you want to feed the cats (not that you have to, they are so snuggly, they'll play and/or snuggle with you without you feeding them).

General info: -There is limited space, so I recommend booking ahead of time on the website, especially if you want to come during lunch or right after work.

-The cats are available for adoption, if you want to take your favorite home with you.

-You may ask, why is there a fee for entry? It's a non-profit, and the fee goes to keeping the space open and helping with the cat rescue. And for those who would love to have a kitty at home, but can't, paying the entry fee to hang with kitties occasionally is way cheaper than owning cats, trust me, I know. ;)

My friend and I visited last week. We were excited because we go to a lot of rescues in the area in our spare time to spend time with shelter animals. When we arrived, It smelled very strongly of urine. We had to pay to visit with the cats which we knew we had to pay to go to this “cafe”, but no drinks available unless you go to a different shop across the street which are high priced and rude service. Not a cat shelter but more like a money grab from two places that claim to be “partners”. Was  pressured to purchase cat toys and treats to give the cats we already paid to visit even though we brought our own treats for donation which we do for any shelter we visit. Don’t waste your time. Go to a real shelter and spend time with cats that you don’t have to pay to visit, pay to give toys to, pay to give treats. It feels like they use the cats to only benefit financially. Sad. When I asked about a certain cat they couldn’t answer questions. Cute cats but we needed a little more breathing room Pros: -Knowledgeable and friendly staff -Cute cats -Large room -Snacks with a cat theme to them and cheap -Treats and very cheap for the cats -Didn’t smell like litter box

Cons: -You don’t have a private room. It’s only one room and you have to share it with multiple people. There were upwards of 7-8 extra people not including the workers. Not including us 4. -The workers are in with you and you get the sense of being babysat. (I understand they don’t want harm to come to the cats) but please let us be for a while. There are huge windows that you can see through. Just watch through those and let people chill. -Other people will hog the cats and take most of their attention away.
