As much as I want to rate this place highly, my last six experiences here have been horrible. 4 of these 6 orders were DoorDash orders I had placed. Every time we ordered, there was at least one thing missing from the order. Most particularly, my mom orderās a quart of sheer cheese soup every time. They have forgotten this. Every. Single. Time. Our last and probably final DoorDash order, we were missing a pizza and our quart of soup. I called a second time (because they didnāt answer the phone the first time) to ask if we could just come and pick up the missing items. I mentioned my displeasure in the recent service and there was no apology or anything. We did end up getting the food, but it still sucked to drive almost an hour round trip on top of waiting an hour for the DoorDash order.
Now, you might think going in person is better. Itās not. The system here is beyond dysfunctional, where the servers are also the bartenders, the bussers, and the food runners. This is a horrible system! I recall spending 15 minutes waiting to be greeted by a server (who was bussing their tables and making their other tableās drinks), only for us to walk out and eat somewhere else due to time restrictions. The service is horrible because of the system. Drink refills took forever and to go boxes/the bill took anywhere from 10-25 minutes to get. It would be less upsetting if there wasnāt usually always a small group of employees talking/laughing by the kitchen door doing nothing to help.
I really love the food here and itās why I kept coming back time and time again, but at this point the lack of service and care in their customers has become heartbreaking. I canāt continue to visit this establishment if nothing changes. I have been a long time customer of 12+ years, so to see it barely functioning is disgraceful. I leave this review not just to warn others, but in hopes the owner reads it and makes some...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreIt's been 15 years since I've been here. No more cask ales!! š they used to make a great Cask IPA. Anyways I did a flight of six beers. To me, none were worth returning for. The Glass Hopper IPA tasted like pickle juice/dirty beer line. The Fake Ipa was the most quaffable. Stout was ok. Had a Ruben. Thick cut. It was good. Meat was cooked nicely. Bread was fresh. Chips were good. Bar tender was awesome. Helpful with recommendations and very attentive. Great job. The manager, on the other hand, I encountered several times during the visit. First, when I questioned the pickle juice. The manager said it's fine....ok....matter of taste...(poor taste). She stood right in front of me for a few minutes at the bar several times. There were only 2 of us at the bar. Never looked at me..... She never once asked how my meal was, how the beer was, was everything ok? ZERO engagement. She was also at the bottom of the steps as I was leaving. Not even a thank you, come again....nothing. Actually.....looked the other way. I guess that's what employees are for....to handle customers. Managers are for handling employees. How these people wind up in the service industry I will never know. There is much more to being a manager than walking around with the big set of keys sipping a Coke all night. The rest of the staff was totally awesome. At least two of the other waitresses stopped by and chatted about the beer and the food. They were all very nice and attentive. The bartender should be the manager, the manager should be the janitor.
The Oliver house building is a really cool historic brick warehouse. I'm not sure what it used to be, but it is a great space and a lot of fun to be in.
I'm not from Toledo, so this is way out of my way. I'll be back in another 15 years to try...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMaumee Bay Brewing Company is easily one of the standout spots in Toledo for both food and craft beer lovers. Housed in the historic Oliver House, the atmosphere blends rustic charm with a lively, welcoming vibe. Whether you're stopping in for a casual lunch, a date night, or a group outing, the setting hits just right.
The brews are phenomenalācrafted on-site, with a wide range of options to suit every taste, from hoppy IPAs to rich stouts and seasonal specialties. Beer flights are a fun way to explore the menu, and thereās always something new or limited on tap for returning guests.
The food is just as impressiveāelevated pub fare with a local twist. Their pizzas are popular for a reason, and the appetizers and entrees are hearty, fresh, and consistently well-prepared. Portions are generous, and the kitchen clearly takes pride in their offerings.
The service has always been top-notch during my visitsāfriendly, attentive staff who know the menu well and make you feel right at home. You can tell they enjoy being part of a local gem.
And then there are the viewsāif you grab a table near the windows or hang out on the patio (weather permitting), youāre treated to scenic glimpses of the Maumee River and downtown Toledo, adding a special touch to the overall experience.
Whether youāre a local or just passing through, Maumee Bay Brewing Company is a must-visit for anyone who appreciates great beer, great food, and great people. Highly recommended.
