The service at Ye Olde Durty Bird needs a lot of improvement. For example, yesterday my mom and I stopped in for lunch. It was cloudy and gray outside like it could rain. It wasn't raining though and we like to sit outside to eat. We asked the hostesses if we could sit outside. The one said, "Yeah, but just so you know, if it starts to rain, you're on your own." I wasn't sure what that meant (can we not come back inside to one of the many open tables?) or how to respond to that and I found it to be an odd thing to say and not helpful. A different hostess led us outside. The umbrellas were not open over any of the tables. We chose a table and tried to put up the umbrella (since we would be "on our own" we thought we better prepare in case it rained...). The hostess stood there and didn't offer to put it up in the first place and didn't offer to help us put it up after we started. We mentioned that the umbrella needed a peg to make it stay open. The hostess seemed aloof and simply said, "I don't know how it works." She didn't offer to get the pegs or find someone else who could help, or do something to help... just continued standing. We let her know we were leaving to eat somewhere else and she didn't apologize or even respond. It was strange. While this is the worst hospitality experience I've had at Ye Olde Durty Bird, this isn't the only time I've had bad service. I can recall another time we received slow service and another time we had an unfriendly server and another time the server seemed confused and not well trained. It's unfortunate because I will say that we enjoy the food at this restaurant, it's delicious (why I gave it a 2 rating and not a 1). However, customers are also paying for the service, and our overall experience with the service has not been good. With so many other restaurants downtown now, Ye Olde Durty Bird is at the bottom of our...
Read moreThe last several visits had been on par for this establishment. Always friendly service and pretty good food. But this last Sunday I experienced horrible service from the wait staff and manager. I had friends visiting from out of town and wanted to take them to experience “Toledo”. Went to Ye Olde Durty Bird for brunch before a Mud Hens game. We were sat in the Sauna (The glasses in area with no air.). I asked if we could open the garage doors to get some breeze blowing. They said that that would make it hotter so we asked to be moved. Once at our new table, we ordered some drinks and looked over the menu. Drinks came out pretty quick and we ordered. This all took about 10 mins. After 30 mins, my son asked the waitress how long before the food. After another 15 mins, I asked another waitress for the manager. I had seen several people come in, order and eat, We we’re still waiting on our food. The manager came up with a really bad attitude and said you can have half off. At this point we still had no food. Finally when the food did come out over an hour after we arrived she said that the food order wasn’t put in long ago. This proved our point as we had already been there 45 mins before she ever put in our order. She nor the waitress were very apologetic and didn’t seem to care that we had waited that long. Our door was cold and not very good at all. At this point we’re we’re tired of being there and decided to just pay the half off and leave. They should have comped the whole meal. If this is how their manager handles customers, I won’t be back. The owner should know that that manager really didn’t do anything to make it better. I know it’s hard to find good help, but jeez. A little customer service would be great. On the bright side, the Bloody...
Read moreWe stopped in a Ye Olde Durty Bird for the first time to try their Restaurant Week menu. At 5 pm on a Wednesday, the place wasn't too busy and we got a nice table in the corner. The staff were following Covid-19 guidelines and the tables were socially distanced more than the six-foot minimum. We started off our meal with a couple of PB & J Old Fashioneds, which were amazing! Our only complaint is that they were smaller than your typical cocktail. Next up was our starters. I ordered the Clam Chowder and my partner ordered the French Onion soup. Both were good. I particularly liked the green onions on top of my chowder. For entrees, I ordered the large Shrimp and Grits and my partner got the 10 oz. New York Strip Steak. His steak was cooked medium rare as he requested and came with a generous portion of onion straws. The side of Smoked Gouda Mac n Cheese was amazing and had great flavor! My Shrimp and Grits was a generous portion. I took about half home. The entree was generously seasoned with creole and was on the spicy side, which I did not mind, but it might be too spicy for others. My only big complaint about my entree was that it was incredibly salty. I'm sure it's to get you to order more alcohol, lol. Overall, it was still enjoyable. Dessert was the main reason I wanted to dine at Ye Olde Durty Bird. Fried Maple Bacon Pecan Bread Pudding. It was a spectacular finish to the meal! The outside had a crispy crunch and the inside was ooey gooey goodness! Overall, we were impressed with the quality of the food. It was much more gastro pub than just bar food and at a...
