I do Not usually leave negative reviews to anybody,, However, unfortunately, this situation warranted it. We Went to castaways excited to try the new place in our town on my wife’s Birthday of all days… We were greeted and seated immediately and happy about it. Our server came over right away and took our drink order, and came back quickly with (hot delicious bread ) took our dinner order. The oysters Rockefeller appetizer came out And it was amazing.
I even made it a point to travel into the bar area and speak to the new manager, introduce myself and tell him how good the appetizers were. He was on his laptop and did not want to be bothered but at least he shook my hand and warmed up to me as I wished him good luck. Yeah
Our meals came, and my wife asked for her salmon to be grilled plain with no sauce, and everything on the side as she has allergies to certain things. The meals looked extremely lackluster on the plate, (see pics) and they did not Honor our requests about putting anything on the side, So when the food came out, we had asked for a new salmon with the sauce or glaze on the side, It was my wife’s birthday, and I did not want to eat my meal in front of her while she waited an additional 36 minutes for her meal, By the time the meal came, the entire restaurant was empty and they were turning off lights in the bar area, staring at us, we Immediately asked to go containers and the bill.
The waitress proceeded to give us our bill, and the only thing we had eaten were the oysters Rockefeller an hour ago, along with the two pieces of bread they gave us, Charging us full price for everything without even an apology. The waitress knew we were upset as we communicated that to her clearly, and she went into the kitchen, The manager should’ve came up to us and addressed our problems, but to no avail we were presented with a bill for over $200 and we had eaten an oysters appetizer, and drank one single drink.. We were not expecting anything for free. However, we were expecting “something” maybe an apology from a manager or anybody at all.. but nothing..
The worst part about everything is after we clearly were visibly upset, wrapping our meals with the tins they gave us, the waitress took all of the money that we gave her, including a Generous 3X tax tip, because we had thought she was great to us, and it wasn’t her fault the kitchen messed up the food ,,, But AFTER taking our money, she came back to us and said “I’m so sorry about everything. Can I get you a dessert tonight??” And we were almost relieved because we felt we deserved a dessert after not even getting to eat our dinner because they were shutting the doors and closing down by the time my wife got her second meal.
So we proceeded to order a dessert for each of us, The waitress happily smiled and said no problem, and when she came back, she came back and said
“ I’m sorry, They only gave me one dessert and would not give me the other because the dessert is only for your wife because it’s her birthday…..” you must be kidding me….
Beyond unacceptable…
Maybe this was a One time thing, and the place is going succeed greatly,, The oysters were good,, But our experience was terrible. So terrible that I felt I had to go on my phone and leave this extremely long and detailed comment. I’m sorry for anyone who had to read all of this. I hope your experience is better than ours..
Btw.. The server Who I will not mention her name was extremely nice and prompt, and I don’t know where the miscommunication came in whether it was her fault or the kitchen but we do Not feel it was the servers fault as she was following orders at that point.
See pics of the $40 salmon and the funny part is the second salmon had less asparagus and no we did not eat any asparagus! Ad well as the Dixie cup desert they tried to give us after we paid everything and...

Met some friends there for Lunch
1st time there for the 5 of us.
1 person ordered the Lobster Bisque and the Peppered Shimp..They said the Bisque was not good, but really enjoyed the Peppered Shrimp.
Another person ordered the Wedge Salad..It was the nicest looking Wedge Salad I've seen in a long time. She said it was good.
Another person ordered Lobster Roll, which was sizable, and had enough meat in it, to take some of it home.
Another person had the grilled chicken with pineapple. She didnt complain about it, or say anything negative, so take that for what it's worth.
I had the hamburger..I ordered it medium rare, no lettuce tomato onion, but had the cheese and bacon added to it. Crispy Fries.
The burger came to me a slight bit undercooked, but I didnt complain, or send it back..So that's on me...Not sure what meat blend they use, but I would never order it again, unless they changed the blend..I had high hopes for this burger, given the pedigree of one of the partners, and the connection to Chops, in Patchougue. The meat was as bland, as bland could be..Boring, no taste. Not even a hint of earthiness, salty taste, or any type of umami, or unctuous taste profile.
The meat to bun ratio was good. One did not overwhelm the other. The cheese, I could have done without, as it was unremarkable. The bun was toasted as I requested, but was boring, as well. The fries were indeed crispy, but also unremarkable.
You know that feeling you get when you order something at a restaurant, get about half way into it, then start wishing you ordered something else?
That's the feeling I had with this hamburger.
For a $23 hamburger I expect a lot more, like taste
As well, I broke my rule on ordering hamburgers over $20, so I was even more twisted at the whole thing.
It's a very nice, bright , atmosphere inside the restaurant.
Service was more than acceptable.
Parking. It's Port Jeff..If you get lucky, you'll get a spot close to your eating destination..If not, you have to hoof it a bit.
Castaways,...
Read moreWhile visiting family on Long Island, a large group of us ate dinner at Castaways Steak & Seafood. It is located in the heart of Port Jefferson. My brother is one of the owners of this restaurant, so I was excited to check it out. The place has a great vibe with a nautical theme, as you feel like you are on a ship. They have a very cool bar with an impressive craft cocktail selection. I like vodka, so I tried the Eifel 65 and Tranquilitea. They were both very good and refreshing cocktais. We shared a bunch of appetizers, including the Baby Lamb Chops, Oysters Rockefeller, Calamari, Bacon Wrapped Scallops, and Peppered Shrimp. They were all delicious, but I highly recommend the lamb chops and bacon wrapped scallops. For a salad, I tried the watermelon salad. It was so tasty with the arugula, strawberries, and balsamic glaze on the watermelon. At this point, I am getting full before the main course arrived. I split the Surf and Turf sandwich with my son. The amount of lobster on this sandwich is very generous. We also had the parmesan Truffle Fries and the lobster Mac as a side. Wow, they were so good. I also tried a bite of my daughter's Chilean Sea Bass that I also liked. My brother let me try a piece of his petit filet with gorgonzola cheese. The steak was so tender. Our party did order dessert, but I was so full, I could not eat another bite. We were fortunate to have Rainna as our waitress, and she gave our large party exceptional service. Castaways is such a wonderful dining experience, and I highly recommend eating and drinking here. I wish I lived closer so I could...
