Checked out the local Indian place at Downport to celebrate my mother's birthday as a family. Nighttime, the upper floor ambience is well-maintained. You can hear some bollywood music playing lightly in the background. We couldn't see the waterside but I'm sure it's beautiful in the daytime. The hostess (Indu) was bubbly and accommodative to us all. My father wanted a spot facing the waterside which they fixed immediately. In terms of food, we ordered some chicken wings, lamb rack, chicken masala, chicken with cheese dish, and lobster mac and cheese. Lobster mac and cheese was pretty bland and generic, lobster tasted a bit better but pasta had no flavor. You could get half the price at a local sea joint but it's an Indian place to be fair. Wings were pretty generic too, I feel like we should've requested some seasoning like make it spicy but they were average. The lamb rack was seasoned which was nice although it had a tangy sweet aftertaste which I felt was out of place. Might be my experience with Mediterranean food but lamb goes great with anything sour like white sauce or Tziki sauce. Lamb came in 4 pieces separated with potato for all you potato lovers out there. The chicken masala tasted great - it tasted more sweet than salty but I loved the masala (sauce), great to dip garlic naan into. My favorite dish was the chicken with cheese option, the meat was soft and juicy and they gave a green chutney sauce to complement with. Portion sizes were not plentiful but decent. Overall, the food here is pretty pricy but the ambience and location balances it out. For a family of 4-5 we spent well over +$200.00 if you wanted a ballpark. They were also nice enough to sing happy birthday to my mom and give us some ice cream which was great. Place gets really loud and rowdy at nighttime. I could barely hear my family. I think the people who hype this place up probably don't have a ton of experience with south Asian / Indian food because you can get so much more for what you pay for elsewhere. But for the Long Islanders here they're willing to pay extra to get a semi-authentic feeling of Indian cuisine. Staff were all compliant with covid-19 guidelines i.e, mask-wearing, social distancing, etc. Still think curry club is better but unfortunately I've heard they're closing, rumor has it they're run by the same owner so perhaps more customers will come here instead. This place definitely saved us a trip to the city for Indian food so I'm grateful for that. I'd recommend you try this place at least once to see for yourself, I'm happy I can get Indian food ~5 min from my house on this side...
Read moreWorst experience ever! I made a reservation for a table for a party of 8 through OpenTable for my friend’s surprise birthday party. I went there one hour before the reservation to leave a cake and make sure that my table will be ready on time. When we went to the restaurant, they didn’t make the table ready for us and the hostess asked us if we are ok to go upstairs without explaining why we shouldn’t be okay. After 10 minutes they made a table ready for us upstairs. At first, we felt it was cold a bit, but we thought it’s bearable for an hour, so we stayed there.
It took about half an hour to take our order. It took a long time to prepare our order. My friend ordered tikka masala with saffron rice. They brought the tikka masala without the rice. He asked for the rice three times and after 15 minutes that his tikka masala got really cold and we all finished our food, they brought it.
It took 2 hours to get our order, prepare it and bring it to our table. It was freezing the whole time and we were all shivering while waiting for our food and eating it.
I went downstairs and asked for the manager, and explained everything. She wasn’t sorry and she didn’t do anything to make it right. She only offered some drinks. We asked for some hot teas to warm us up. They brought half filled cups with hot water and some lipton teabags where the tray was filled with hot waters from the cups! The teas were already cold and not drinkable. The waiter asked us if we want him to slice the cake, and we agreed. He took the cake, left it on the counter and disappeared. We waited for 15 minutes and nobody was around. At last, we took the cake and picked up some plates from empty tables to slice the cake and eat it. When we asked for some boxes to take our leftovers, we had to take them ourselves from the service area.
The service was the worst experience that I had! And they charged us for 20% for this service when we did everything ourselves!!!
The quality of the food has deteriorated since the last time I was here (not yet merged with Curry Club). We were here another time several months ago when it was only Saghar, and we enjoyed the chili fries and our food. But this time, the quality of food was so bad.
I talked to the manager another time when we were leaving and mentioned that even after I talked with her, the service even got worse and nobody anymore gave us any service, and again she didn’t do anything to...
Read moreI have to be honest. We love Indian cuisine, but we've only come here a handful of times on nights that Curry Kebob in Patchogue is closed. But I'm reminded every time just how bad they are. I don't think we will return.
When we got to the table, there was wet food on the chairs, no napkins. When odering from their menu, everything is a la carte, nothing is included in your dinner order, not rice, not naan, not even condiments, which jacks up the price significantly. And good luck getting anything you ordered, even when you ask for it multiple times.
The service at Curry Club is one of the worst I've experienced. We sat for dinner and ordered an appetizer. The appetizer didn't come out before dinner as you would expect and when they finally dropped off the entrees, we had no plates, no silverware, (again) no napkins, no water.
When we are able to begin eating, the food is prepared in a lazy way through short cuts you might see at cheaper restaurants (e.g. prepared with dried garlic shavings as opposed to fresh garlic). When you're paying a premium, you'd expect better, fresh food.
We were half way done with our meal and still didn't have water or the appetizer, after having asked two more times. When we received the appetizer, we requested condiments but never received them. Patience growing thin, we just continued to eat the entrees without drinks or other items we had requested.
We were practically done eating by the time the appetizer came, and they never came to clear the table either. Just left us sitting there with a bunch of dishes and empty glasses. After being thoroughly annoyed to have to ask for everything 2, 3, 4 times, just to see the staff watching TV behind the bar or slowly walking around with earbuds in, we eventually asked for the check.
The whole dinner took from 7:15-9:15 on a Sunday night, and was $75 before tip for 2 people. (It's $65/2ppl for the all you can eat buffet at Curry Kebob by comparison.) I'm actually questioning whether we should've left a tip at all, it was truly that bad. Inattentive at best. But probably closer to down right disrespectful as they acknowledged and then blatantly ignored...
