Was there once before. It was ok, the server was nice though. I had seen a couple of weeks ago that they have Detroit style so I figured I go back. Went today - a Saturday about 8:40 PM Walked in, pretty empty, about three full small tables, three to four at the counter, two servers, guys making pizza, two other guys behind the register. The guys behind the register were involved in a conversation with about four costumers - not taking orders, not handing them food, just talking. I was standing near the tables waiting for someone one to say hello, sit anywhere, sit here, can I help you etc.. anything. After 4-5 minutes, the servers went to a table, back the the register, to two people at the counter, back to the register, staying at the register, talking between themselves, but never looking up. They never even looked around to see if the people already seated needed anything. The one at the register finally glanced at me but just turned right back around to the register, the other server just kept talking to her and she gave me a glance but also never acknowledged my presence. after a few minutes of this I told myself that I would give them two more minutes. If no one said boo to me I would leave. The guy at the register stayed in his conversation, the guys making pizza understandably kept making food - not their job to help the costumers, and the two servers never gave me another glance. So looked at my match, two more minutes have passed so I went up to the register and told them I was sorry to break up their conversation but I’d been standing there for five minute - it was more - and no one’s even said hello or have a seat or anything. I’ve seen this kind of thing before. It’s big in the old time city deli/lunch counter places where the workers never look up to see if the costumer need any help hoping to do less work. Also some business once they believe they got this, they adopt this behavior. I worked in retail for a long time and have zero tolerance for this kind of thing. Anyway, when I finally broke up the conversation at the register the guy behind the counter started to come out but I told him forget it. I thought to myself that every business I’ve been to that acts like this doesn’t stay in business long so I told the guy that I would make sure to visit after they’re out of business....
Read moreI rarely ever write reviews unless it bad and this is one of those bad experiences. I went here during live at five A few days ago, and I figured that when I seen my pizza extremely thin what more sauce than cheese and then the crust was so tough that it would break a tooth, I assume that it was just an opportunity for them to make money and not waste all their ingredients. I return back there July 12 and order another 2 slices that I asked only to be warm because The prior night I hurt my mouth so bad from getting burnt from another “warm slice” Anyway, my friend, wind up, ordering some food himself, which is a pepperoni pinwheel and a margarita slice. Also requested that just to be warmed. These girls begin just chatting and showing each other stuff on their phone and completely forgot the pizzas in the oven. My friend went back up and requested that they removed the pizza because he only wants it warm. Well, surprisingly, the pizza was extremely slim, Barely any cheese on the regular slice A bunch of sauce and Rock solid crust. After things cooled down we ate we both said to each other things changed here this pizza is not worth it. We through most of it out and still hungry and down 25.00 now. We decided to ask for Zeppoli’s because what pizza place doesn’t know how to make Zeppoli‘s and cover them in confectioners sugar. Well, I guess I annoyed the lady by asking for yet another order even though that that’s her job she went into the back grab Zeppoli’s came to the table, dropped it on the table, and walked away. Not a thank you not can I get you anything else just some barely dusted with confectioners sugar Zeppoli’s. I’m done going to this spot. I would suggest the other 2 spots in...
Read moreA pizza connoisseur I may not be, but I will not eat ever again a frozen dough pizza, no matter how good they may look for many reasons. Taste is the main reason, as is the texture being off, but the poor quality of the dough… and lack of health features speak for themselves. Try to find a pizza place that makes a daily fresh dough these days! (Or bagels, Kaiser rolls…need I say more?) Donatini’s isTHE pizza in NY we all remember as kids, whether it was homemade, from the Hempstead Bus Depot near Fulton Avenue and A & S, or from Borelli’s of East Meadow. Sadly, even Borelli’s Pizza is not the same tossed, fresh pizza over the past few years…one bite and the texture tells it all. This owner makes fresh dough daily, uses a true Italian artisinal flour as made in Naples over many, many years that is superior in taste, yes, but also in known health benefits. And the Mozzarella is fresh… and tastes fresh, none of the skim-milk, tasteless substitute often used. You can taste the olive oil…this is both important and very, very rare these days! (Maybe he will try Buffalo Mozzarella one of these days). The sauce is true greatness; gratefully, no added sugar that I can taste to make it less acidic, but that kills the true flavor and makes it taste like U.S. phony Italian/Sicilian food. You won’t find a better pie or a better pizza place… and good luck trying! And do not miss the Spumoni/Tartufo ice cream. I have never tasted better, not even in Rome...
